| Newbie | Dear Craig, I Underwent a full roux en y bypass on the 2 april this year, i contracted mrsa, staph and took a stitch abscess which have all now thankfully settled. the first 4 weeks after the surgery i was constantly sick, even water, they discovered a stricture and done a balloon dilation which for 5 days gave me wonderful relief allowing me to eat soup, mashed potato and gravy and even some cheesy baked potato then back to sickness. Now almost three months post op i still only occasionally manage some soup (whizzed potato and leek) and some water, everything else comes back up and i have a constant foamy saliva type sickness. Will this ever end? I am in a wheelchair so have not managed the exercise bit, dont know if that is slowing things down. Am so weak and nauseaus all the time and cant seem to get out of the bit. It is really getting me down, i cant swallow tablets so that is not an option. will life ever be normal again? |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Hello. Welcome to the boards. Sorry to hear you are having a rough time with this. Maybe if you let us know what you are trying to eat when you get sick someone could help or make suggestions. Are you getting any protein at all? Hopefully one of the other more experienced post ops or doc sanae will be in shortly. Again, sorry you are having such difficulties. |

| Super Moderator | Welcome to the board, thank you for joining us. ((((((((HUGS))))))))) I'm very sorry to hear you are having such a hard time, how is your surgeon's follow up? What you have posted are matters that your surgeon should be kept up to speed, and for him/her to figure out and take care of. Strictures sometimes can't be taken care of in one dilation, and also sometimes recur once or twice before it is all settled down, so it may be that you've developed another stricture even if things aren't as severe as before, so you should first confirm this with your surgeon. Foamies are something a lot of post ops experience, and it may have to do with how you eat. Do you bite off too large a piece (remember, your pouch is the size of a golf ball, and much smaller than your mouth, actually, so a mouthful is too large for your pouch, now) do you eat slowly and chew thoroughly? It will take time, but yes, I'm sure you'll have a good life again, keep bugging your surgeon until you are feeling better, don't let him be finished with you until you are doing well, but at the same time, you also need to take things one day at a time, and be patient. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | WELCOME TO THE BOARDS.... sorry to hear of this hard time your experiencing. I would definitely have them check out if your still haveing stricture issues and need another dialation. I have heard from many that had to have it done over and over. FOAMIES i had them early out and dont get them any more.... never really could say what caused them but that has left me for good! HANG in there and maybe request another scope! to make sure your opening is big enough to get things thru to stay down. I can imagine how frustrating this is for you! WE are here for any venting you need! hugs welcome to the boards

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I had strictures and had to have 4 dialations...it's NOT uncommon to have more than one stricture. I'm surprised they haven't had you go back for another one with all the vomiting you'd had? ---hang in there and fight ...what I always say is if you are vomiting something is WRONG...tell your doc that and ASK for another consult with a gastro doc about getting another dialation done. ---Bree

| Newbie | thanks to all for the advice, was taken into the local hospital here and they done a scope but said all was fine and that the sickness was in my head and i was just to persevere!! i am about 700 miles away from my surgeon because i had just moved before the surgery. not due to see him again til 23 august. I am trying all different things to eat and tried the baby spoon tip. will just need to keep going with it i guess?? the thing is i feel as tho i am not losing any weight, know that maybe sounds crazy but think my body has stopped losing because it has went into starvation mode. any advice gratefully received. |

| Super Moderator | You said that you can't get any tablets in, are you getting in the vitamins, minerals and supplements you need to? If you can't take any tablets, there are liquid type vits, too. Also, are you getting in enough protein and water? Have you tried protein shakes or puddings? Have you checked out our Gastric Bypass Recipe forum? Try some of the recipe there, see if you can find something that agrees with you. If you aren't able to get in the vitamins and supplements you need to, if your fluid balance is not in good order, that in itself may interfere with your being able to keep things down. Hate to say this also, but the dr who scoped you, does he/she really know what it's supposed to look like with a bypass patient? If he's seen only a few, then it is possible he is overlooking something. As for the stall, how is your clothing? Is it getting any looser? Even if the scale isn't moving, well, quite often, it's when the scale isn't moving, is when you are losing the inches. I really think you need a serious and thorough check up with your surgeon, not the local drs, before you let them say it's all in your head. Granted quite a lot will change for you, which will leave you and your body confused, but things do seem a tad too distressing for you, to be left up to, it's just you. August seems too far away, can't you at least call your surgeon up and tell him what's going on and ask for advice, or referral to someone who's familiar with the surgery, and much closer so that you have easy access? These are the things that come up to my mind right now. ((((((((HUGS)))))))))
