Question Wellness/Exercise Consultation

I finally got all my scheduled appointments for my surgery and I have an appt for a wellness/exercise consulation. Does anyone know that is? I also have a nutrition consultation, I understand that one, but not so sure about the wellness one. It is at the hospital, so I am really not sure what they are going to do... any ideas?!?!?!

Thanks!!!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Might be to see how much you can exercise, and also to give you tips on excercise, both pre and post op.

Ditto On What Doc Said. On My Health Ins Website They Have A Page Just For Wellness/excercise And It Talks About Excercise Tips, And Just A Better Way Of Life, How To Lower Your Blood Pressure, Take Care Of Your Diabetes, Etc Etc. Pretty Interesting!!

Excercise Is A Big Part Of This Journey So I Think Its Great That They Have Set Up An Appt For You For Some Excercise Tips. I Never Had An Appt Like That Pre-op. I Do Go To The Gym Though But Still Think Any Advice Would Be Great.

I did those meetings at my surgs. office, except the pshych.eval. NUT mtg. is to discuss post-op stages of eating and exercise at least for me was a class pre-op to introduce us to the first exercises we would and should be doing at home as soon as we were cleared. I am from Buff.,I was wondering where u r having yours? Kathy

Thanks for the replies... I hope they do give me tips on exercising. I get nervous about saggy skin, so hopefully exercise will help that, but then I am so tall, I dont really look as big as I am, so maybe I won't have that problem... I can only hope and pray!!

Kathy, I am having my surgery done in Utica, NY by Dr. Graber. He is close to my house and from what I hear, he is a good surgeon. Did you have your surgery in Buffalo, or did you go somewhere else?

I had a wellness eval too. Basically all they did was take 10-15 min. and show me around their exercise facility. It's like an hour from my house so I won't go there, but there offer deals and specials and special workouts for wls pts.

I had to have an exercise evaluation. I needed a fitness evaluation, a writen exercise plan that included what my work out would be, I had to bring a copy of the chart that I would use to record my reps/minutes, etc., that I was trained on how to perform the exercises and then the evaluator had to determine if I was likey to follow through with the program.

Hey Trace!
Well, to be honest I didn't find this appointment to be very interesting or helpful. They will take you in this little room at St Lukes with about 10 other people and ask you to rate how much you excercise now, and explain what you should be doing and when after surgery. They then gave you these exercise bands and made you do some group exercises. This was the part I didn't like-kind of awkward. On a positive note, they do weigh you and offer to take ALL of your measurements. I recommend doing this!!! It helps to lify your spirits when the inches are dropping but the pounds aren't.

I was just curious to know what the appointment was, it's nice to have an idea of what I am going to be doing before I actually go to the appointment. I am just ready to get all of this stuff over and get onto the surgery...

Jessica, I knew you would respond, seeing you went there...thanks! Group exercises? That doesnt sound like too much fun... But oh well, it has to be done, right?!?! What about the Psych appt, did you use their doctor? I forget the name, Dr. Suresh something?!?! I can only imagine what that is going to be like!!! It is all part of the experience though!!
