Default About the Pre Surgery Liquid Diet....

I have 5 days of liquids, this includes vegtable broth, chicken broth, beef broth, protein shake (anyone that I like) and sugar free popsicles.

Here's what my direction say...

1. Begin your protein supplement only diet (no food), 53 grams minimum grams of protein for women.

2. You can also have clear liquids

3. take your mulitvitamin with iron

4. drink 64 ounces of water ad ay

Now for the QUESTION... can I drink as much as I want of the protein supplement, like when I feel hungry, can I drink whatever I want throughout the day??? This isn't a medifast diet, so I think its a free for all kinda thing??? what do you think?

I am using Muscle Milk Light for my protein, it is very good, and its what the dietician recommends, along with the Muscle Milk light pudding for after surgery.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I would be careful of the calories. The purpose of the diet is to lose weight, so I definitely don't think it's a free for all. I would call the doc and ask about a calorie limit. And you don't want too much protein (no more than 80 or 90) because you could hurt your kidneys. Good luck!!!!

that's what I'm questioning. In order to get to this point, you MUST have met your weight loss goal before surgery. I was to loose 10lbs, I've actually lost 19, so I don't "need" to loose anymore prior to surgery. If they wanted me to just loose more weight before surgery, I could have stayed on a 900 calorie diet and lost weight.

I've decided to do 3 protein shakes a day and as much other clear liquids as I want. This is ridiculous, I was NEVER hungry eating 900 calories a day, but just having liquid is horrible. I feel sorry for everyone that has had to do this for more then 1 week... how you are doing it for weeks, upon weeks I"ll never know.

Anymore advice would be great. I'll call the hospital tomorrow and get clarification.

I did 5 protein shaks a day they told me that I could do six if I was still hungry, and in between any clear liquid as much as I could drink it did have to be SF. And when my surgeron did my surgery he said I did a good job because my insides were very shrunken and plyable. So I would say that as long as it is SF liquids you should be able to have as much as you like. Check with your surgerons office thou.
