| Ok, who here has gone BELOW their goal?
I was speaking with my nutritionist today and this is kind of how it went.
me: because i have 40 odd kgs to lose, and it is anticipated that this will be gone in about 6mths, well, at that stage, i still wont be able to eat alot, so what happens with the losing of weight if i am already at an appropriate weight?
Her: you will keep on losing weight and you will have to up the calories ingested, but you may actually get very skinny initially, but then will stabilise after a while.
..............................
Ok, so my understanding is that after about 1yr, we should be eating approx an entree sized meal.
If I lose my excess weight at the 6mth mark, I wont be able to stabilise properly for another 6mths or so.
Im not too worried about it, as they wont let me fade away to nothing, my question is this:
Has anyone else encountered or may be going to encounter this issue?
If you have, could you please tell me about what you went down to or what you did to slow it down? (etc)
Thank-you so very much!
*HUGS TO ALL*

there are a few people who ended up under goal. ryesmommy comes to mind. my goal from my surgeon was 180 lbs. but my personal goal was 140. i dunno if im considered under or what lol. i know im still losing but its ALOT slower now. i've read adding carbs, upping calories and what not will slow it down. i think your body will slow you down when it's ready. theres no sense in fighting it to be honest....unless of course you are getting sick from being too small...which is something else in and of itself.
in a nutshell, i have no idea lol. but when you find out let me know. i need to but the breaks on too! lol.

My surgeon never gave me an established goal weight, he just said I'd loose most of the weight over the first 8 months, then slow down. Warning me though, he said some patients will regain 15% of their weight a couple of years out, when they fully "stabilize". My mental goal was 225, a weight I'd maintained for close to 20 years. I started out at 345, and am at 204 at 21 months out. So I've surpassed the goal I set for myself. But I do try to exercise daily, eat right, have trouble getting enough water though, and I do attend multiple support groups monthly. I meet several people like me at these meetings--1 year plus post ops who want to maintain their weight. It's like a positive reinformement for permanent RNY success. I stopped going for 3 months last year, and I gained 20 pounds. So these meetings are important to me. They may help you with long term success too. DAVE

im not nearly at this point yet, but i had my 6 month checkup yesterday and my surgeon was talking about this, saying that it is ok to go below your goal because you will gain a little weight back. at this point i cant even imagine making it to goal let alone making it too much under goal

Thanks you guys! I know of a Lady who has just had the op recently who lives not too far away, so I will be watching her case closely as we are around the same weight pre op.
Kenya: No worries Chick, I will definitely be keeping you posted on this. I think its important for everyone to be aware of as the other side of the coin. The Drs arent worried about it, and im not worried, just like to be prepared.. I cant even imagine being that small.
Just a quick weight conversion for you guys:
weight I have to lose= 40kgs = 88lbs
goal weight= 66kgs = 145lbs
possible initial weight (below goal)= 50 -55kgs = 110lbs - 121lbs.
So that is a big drop really...
Cheers |

Well not sure I can answer the question on how to stop losing cause I am now down to 128 about 22lbs under where I wanted to be. Doc has said to up foods and has even encourage eating bad stuff, which I have kinda. I told him I do not want to be 270 something again, but I really want to be around 150. I NEVER in my life have tried to gain weight. Before I could look at something and gain 5lbs...now I can not . I tried telling doc that I am still only able to eat about 1/2 of cup of food at a time. he says eat more often so I do. I am going to go get a second opinion from another WLS clinic in Omaha and see what they have to say. so if I come up with an answer I will be sure to let you know.

My surgeons office have said to eat only 3 times a day, water/fluids inbetween etc, so I suppose if I did go way past goal weight (which is the recommended weight for my height and build), I would eat more often.
I appreciate your guys comments on this. I still cant imagine ever being that light and WANTING to put on weight, but I do know that I need to be strong and have energy for my son, so I will do whatever it takes to remain healthy on this journey.
9 SLEEPS TO GO!!!!! WOOHOOOOOO!!!!!!!!
