Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Ok so here it goes. I was reading on another site that a man who had GBS was ready to stop losing weight (LUCKY HIM). Well people replied for him to start drinking more protein shakes to maintain his current weight. So my question is does protein make you lose or does it make you gain? I will be honest I cannot tolerate the protein drinks anymore. Instead I have been drinking 2 8 oz glasses of milk a aday but that is only 18g of protein. A far cry from what I should be getting. Also my weight is holding I have not lost anything for a while. However, I thought I was to early out to be stalling. Does the fact that I am not getting my protein have anything to do with this? I'm confused and not sure what to do. I knew the weight wasn't goingto fall off, but I thought things would go differently. Any help you could offer would be great!! Thanks Guys!! ![]() |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | It might -- protein is important for weight loss especially this early. Your body needs that protein to maintain its health -- you should try other protein shakes. I make my own and just love it (just in the morning now). Its like a frappacino! While milk is good for you and it seems you tolerate it and don't have any problems, you definately need to get more protein in. As far as that guy drinking more protein to gain weight -- I guess he could -- body builders use protein shakes to build up -- they can be pretty high in calories -- but its probably around muscle mass too -- muscle weighs more than fat -- so that could be it? |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | You need your protein. Your stats say you had surgery Jan. 28, less than one month ago. Protein is really important right now. You should be loosing a lot of weigh shortly, and without additional protein intake, your muscle mass will be lost too. You need the protein for strength. WLS is a recipe, not a cure all. The surgery is the tool, and you have to learn to use the tool. Proper protein intake (60-80grams per day minimum), 48 oz of water minimum, exercise, eating foods as directed by your surgeon, vitamins, calcium--all of these are compenents of the weight loss surgery. Poor protein intake will really mess with your weight loss, and you'll probably end up sick and weak too. Get some protein supplement powder or premixed drinks. You can take up to 25 grams or protein at a time. One scoop of most whey protein supplements, mixed with 3 oz of skim milk or water gives you 25 grams of protein. Initially you have to do this 2-3 times daily. If you want your surgery to become a success, you need to follow the program set up by your surgeon.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Thanks Guys, I agree the no protein is not gonna fly anymore. I just forced myself to drink a IDS liquid protein vial. It was disgusting but gave me 42g of protein. I think I will do this from now on until, I can figure out something else. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | You missed one important part. ONLY TAKE about 25 grams of protein at a time. Anything over that at one time is virtually wasted. YOUR BODY can only assimilate about 25 grams of protein at a time, so drinking any more at the same time is a waste of you $$$. 42 grams is more than 25, isn't it?
