Default Costco....New Scale....

Oh the joys of Costco- I bought a new scale. I just could not resist! I have become a little obsessed with the scale of late.

It does body fat, muscle mass, bone something or other, and hydration. And better yet it puts me a pound less than the old one, so it's a keeper.

So the sad part is that my body fat is 79% according to it- eek. And it says my water is 15% not the normal 50%. I don't know if it is accurate, but it sure is neat to use.

Anyone else have a scale like this? Do you see the fat % drop with your weight? I will be curious to see if it goes down as I do!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I have one of those types too that does the fat ratio and hydration etc.

Doc explained in a posting one time about how that works. It's great those digital ones. It doesn't change weight if you get off and on a few times LOL!!!

I have one, too. It measures by a method called impedance. A very very low harmless amount of electricity is passed through, and the ratio is calculated according to the difference in the resistance it encounters while passing through. It's said to be basically accurate, but if your body fat ratio is high, it can be a little off.
Now, your bone mass and muscle mass isn't going to be proportionate to your weight, so the heavier you are, the higher your body fat ratio will be, with the exception of certain cases, like heavy athletes who got heavy while training a lot at the same time. With these people the fat ratio will be lower than expected.
Your water ratio is low, but that's because the majority of your weight is still from fat, so that will go up as your fat ratio goes down.

Read the instructions well. My surgeon had a very expensive scale ($2500) and you had to be either barefoot or in socks to have it read. Shoes could not be worn to get your weight on that scale. If it's as the doc says, you probably have to be barefoot to get an accurate reading.

Hmmm....I thought it was common sense that you got on the scale barefoot? At least, most people I know will have as less as possible stuff on themselves to get as low a reading as they can get....

Yes, I'd think so too. But there are a lot of questions here that defy common sense on many topics too. Just thought I'd suggest the obvious. Some people rush into things without reading instructions, and then wonder why it won't assemble correctly or the product doens't work correctly. When I go to a doctors office (non RNY surgeon), most people do NOT remove shoes. I don't either, when I'm at my gp or cardio doctors office.

Really? I find that all the questions are quite obvious ones that will come up, in relation to the stages that each of our members are. Nothing that defies my common sense, actually.
Having been in the clinical field for over 30 years, I've had enough experience with having explained something to my patients, myself thinking that I had explained thoroughly, yet finding out later when my patients actually face the issues real time, that my previous explanations hadn't registered at that time, simply because they either had no idea, or had not expected that they actually would, face the said issues. So, they ask the same question all over again, when the time comes to deal with them. Which is perfectly understandable. So, I explain beforehand as a precaution, but also expect to explain again when the time and need comes.
It's the been there, done that talk that relieves the anxiety and fears that everyone has, going through the post op journey. Very early out, it's the day to day existence itself that concerns the post ops. For whatever it's worth, what's crystal clear to those who have been on this journey for a number of years, is still murkey and in the far off future for those who are only a few weeks, a few months, post op. They need step by step and side by side encouragement to go through this. A gentle nudge here, a friendly and loving reminder there. There are no questions too stupid to ask.
Just as their pouches are still tender, so are their hearts.
