Question Soften stools

I am asking this question for someone else. I have no trouble with my stools. I have no answer for this person what to take. Does anyone take something to losen the stool. This person has a hardened stool and has problems having a bowel movement. This person says it hurts to go. This person is taking stool softeners and does not seem to soften the stool.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

the only thing i have ever used post op and SWEAR by is MIRALAX and at the same time i upped my fluids. miralax is a powder which you mix into drinks. it has no taste and doesnt change the texture of your drink. and it usually works for me by the next day the longest it has ever taken to work on me was 2 days. you can buy this over the counter at cvs, walmart or even in the grocery store. we all use this thanks to msvickie

good luck whoever you are!

Other than stool softners, up your fluids, and up fiber food intake as well.

She does eat alot of fiber foods and also drinks all the required water and lots of times drinks more than the required water. She has no idea what to do next and the doctors are no help to her at all. They just keep telling her that it will get better. I had problems the first month and after that I got regular with my bowel movements, I gave her some of the oily stuff that I took and hope that it helps things move in her. I will tell her about the Miralax.
Thank you all for the imformation and I will pass this along to her.

Is she taking one stool softener pill per day? If so, she may want to take more. From my visiting with post RNY patients at support group meetings, most patients take 2-3 pills per day. I take 3 per day, two at night, and one in the morning. I find this works fine for me.

Yep, she takes 2 to 3 stool softeners every day and still has trouble. this all started when they changed the meds on her. Ust to take the opisource med. and then the clinic shanged all med becasue they found out the people who where on opitsource had trouble with the blood tests and switched us all to different meds. I have no problem with them but she does and her problem is that it makes her stools hard. She went off the iron pills and she siad she needs to take them becasue she is tired al the time now and she knows it is from not taking the iron. She said the iron pills really made her constipated. But she said she needs to find something that is going to help her to go to the bathroom easier. I know iron pills make some people constipated but I am ok with it and I have no problem. I take an iron pill every night. My daughter is ok with it all too.

Try Kiwifruit, smallish, oval shaped brown fuzzy fruit which is green on the inside. you can mash it up and make a smoothie out of it or what ever, it is VERY good for the bowel. Good luck to your friend.

In regards to the iron, I too cannot take most iron pills so my dietician told me about the chewable iron pills from Bariatric Advantage. They have to be the Passion Fruit Flavored. They are not so bad, smell good and do not constipate me. They have a web-site you can order off of.

Kitty..seriously Miralax is a miracle. Constiption is painful and horrible. When I was backed up for over a week, it was awful and rock hard like you described, but the Miralax helped within a day or two. Since then I take a dose of Miralax every other day in the morning and I stay comfortable and regular. My surgeon says its harmless and fine to use regularly as it is merely a stool softener. I also take 2 fiberchoice, drink 64-75oz of water per day, and exercise (walking is good for this problem actually Ive heard). Anyway the Miralax is tasteless and I mix it with water and crystal light. Hope this helps out your friend.
