Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | some insurance companies require things like this, they say it is to see if a supervised diet will do the trick instead of having to go for the actual surgery, in my opinion it is a way of the insurance company to try to side track or get you discouraged so you dont have the surgery. a couple years ago i had an insurance comapny that required 1 year of a supervised diet,, so i gave up. then when i got my new insurance i checked into it and had it done, good luck!!

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Honestly, I am not sure why except to see that we really try to make an effort on our own first. However, my pcp kinda laughed at this and said I wouldn't be going thru all this in order to get surgery if I had not already tried everything. Which is true!! Not all insurances require this. Mostly BC/BS. So just relax and jump thru the hoop. The 7 weight-ins will be over before you know it. Make sure to have your height measured at each weigh in and discuss any exercise you are doing or the lack of due to health issues so it can be documented. I already had my surgery date before I was finished with my supervised diet. Once I had my last weigh in, my pcp faxed the info right to the surgeon's office and I was approved in about an hour. Had my surgery the next month. Good Luck! |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | it could just be the policy or what have you. i did not have this requirement. i just think it is another way to make you wait to be honest. is there a required amount youhave to lose? maybe its just for documentation that diets dont work? i wish you the best with this. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | My insurance also requires the 6 month sup diet. I'm right at the end of it. I think it is to make sure you are commited... not using the surgery as a easy way out, so I've heard some say. Anyone looking into surgery would know that its not the easy way... we've all tried everything under the moon and this is our last resort! I tried weight watchers for my sup diet and I lost 14 lbs the 1st month, then 3 the 2nd month, then maintained the same the next month and gained 1 lb the next month. It is so frustrating! Now I'm trying Atkins for the last month to see if I can get any more off... it just goes to show some of us really cant get it off no matter what we do! Good luck to you! Its a frustrating road for sure!

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Yep I had to do this- they wanted to see a Dr. was seeing me every month for 6 months to monitor my progress. (don't miss a month! For mine it had to be CONSECUTIVE or it started all over) They had no requirement to actually lose weight funny enough- but I think they want to see a commitment to the process, and that you are under a Dr.'s care before surgery as well. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Mine didn't specify what diet I had to be on or for how long, but I had to lose 5% of my body weight before surgery. My docs office required 10%, so they put you on a liquid protein drink and I lost 40lbs in 6 weeks.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | My insurance does not require a diet, but 6 month MD classwork on all the pros/cons, the pre/post-op diets, and healthy eating in general. It was run by a couple certified dietitians. I actually gained 8 pounds during that time, mostly in my current efforts to say "goodbye" to some foods I will probably never see again post-op. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I was told that they want to make sure ur committed to losing the weight. Obviously if we could completely do it on r own we wouldn't need the surgery. I'm in the process of finishing my drs visit and hopefully next month send in my papers to the ins co. I'm soooo nervous because it's always in the back of my mind whether or not they will want something else. I've been told to jump through whatever hoops they tell u 2, don't ask questions and don't offer ur opinion and everything will work out. Good luck, keep us posted.
