Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Okay so I am Irish and St Patrick's Day is just around the corner. I was told no red meats but we boil corned beef for 6-7 hours so it is very tender. Do you think it will be okay to try a little this early for me? |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Listen all you can do it try. Just cook it till it falls apart, take a really small piece, and then once you swallow, WAIT...I've noticed that I think something went down, eat another piece a little too soon and all of a sudden it's stuck. I tried pot roast last night (since ground beef is working) I cooked that thing in the croc pot for 10 hours, it was literally falling apart, couldn't even cut it it was so soft (and man did it smell sooooooooooo good) I had the first piece and it was wonderful, but then I may have gotten too excited cause the second piece...bang, it wouldn't go down, second piece! I was done! Good luck, cause I want to try corned beef too.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Most docs prefer if you try to avoid beef until you're about 5-6 months out. I tried some at 4 months, and I had no problems. But you're only about 2 months out, so proceed with caution.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | The surgeons are all different. Mine had me back on meats at 4 weeks. The reason why is because of the digestive tract having a hard time digesting it after long periods. As far as getting thing hung, I have never had that problem because I chew it in my mouth until its almost disolved. All you can do is try but remember its gonna have to be a small small amount starting out. |

| Super Moderator | Basically, the yes-no will depend on your surgeon so you'll need to ask. A tea spoonful very well chewed even though it's already mushy from all the boling, may be fine, but it is best you don't do it if your surgeon says no.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | My doc was liberal about what to eat, it was more the stage I was at, for example, in the puree stage, beef was fine - if it was pureed. Could you puree it into a soup consistency? You'd still get the taste and protein benefits? See what your doc thinks of that idea if it's too soon for meats in general. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I had made some corned beef and cabbage at about 5 months out and it sat absolutely WONDERFUL with me...I suppose because it was in teh crock pot ALL DAY. It was the FIRST thing I ate that was NOT Chicken or Turkey. I can not wait till St Patricks Day so that I can make it again! get with your surgeon to make sure that you are far enough out on his plan to eat it. And remember that anything new you try is NEW now. You new pouch will let you know if it is ok to eat. I tried to eat meat from my husbands chinese food and NO WAY...I have never hurt so bad in my life!! I will NEVER EVER again do it! It set me straight on that! I picked some meat out of his house lomein (chicken, shrimp, pork). WOW~~~you have to learn as you go. Still to this day, I can not eat an egg unless it is in something. NO BOILED eggs for me unless they are in Tuna. Trial and Error! LOLOLOL |
