| ?Regrets?
Other than 'not doing it sooner'!
I would value the opinions of those who have lived this for a while, as I am beginning to get cold feet (I'm about 6 weeks away and haven't even decided on LapBand vs ByPass!).
Do you regret having the surgery?
If so, why or what would you do differently?
Thanks!

I guess the only thing I regret is why I did not do it sooner. But they have improved the gastric bypass so much and I am glad that I waited and did it when I did. I had it done lipascoply and glad I had it done this way, I was very scared of being cut wide open becasue of being so heavy. But I lost 36 pounds before surgery and the doctors said that it made my surgery alot easier and alot safer. My husband had issues about the surgery becasue he was so scared of losing me. Well, now he is soooo proud of me with all the weight I lost. I would do it all over in a heart beat becasue I suffered for so many years with all that weight on. It ruined my knees and my ankles where so bad and hurt all the time and now the pain is all gone but my knees only hurt when I have to kneel on the floor or get up from a stooping position, it is real hard for me. That is how I ruined my knees just from all the weight I carried around for so many years. I had such backackes and could not stand very long at all, I always had to sit for everything I did. Now the pain in my back is gone unless I overdo it. I can stand much longer by the counter and peel potatoes or just cutting up meat for the frying pan. I have a dishwasher but at my moms house we do dishes the old fashion way, all by hand and it was so bad with my weight that I would pull up a chair to help with the dishes becasue my back could not handle doing dishes at my folks house. I now can dishes standing and have no problem at all. The gastric bypass has improved my health tremendously and it is a brand new life for me. My daughter feels the same way and she was having so many health problems already. She was my inspiration to have the gastric bypass. I just could not believe how good she came out of surgery and how she looked in a week after surgery. My nutritionist advised me to get a gastric bypass becasue of my history of trying to loss the weight and that I would do much better with the gastric bypass then the lap band. But I did alot of research before I decided with which one I was going to do. But when my daughter had the gastric that really made up my mind to have the same procedure and the same doctor to do my surgery. This surgery was life changing for me and I was ready for it. I was so tired of my aches and pains and being so tired of not hardly being able to do anything. So research very well, and go from there. Go to some support meetings and talk to some of the people there and you will be amazed. Good luck

I just had surgery 6 weeks ago and I'm closer to a lot of the cons of the surgery and still can't eat most foods. And I would still do it all over again in a heart beat. I've already lost 64 lbs and couldn't feel better!

| Def would do it again ~ without a doubt. I believe everything happens in due time so I really can't say I'd do anything different. I know there are some cons - for me the skin issue is somewhat distressing, but like someone said before surg I had excess skin then too, it was just full of fat - LOL! Talk about calling it like you see it! The hair loss is significant but is def managable for me. The constant gas is something to deal with too, I have heard it gets better over time and hope that is true. The pros - oh my gosh - are so wonderful. I am saving ~$40+ a month on prescriptions I dont take anymore. BP is normal, blood sugars are low normal, No more chest pains, difficulty breathing, I'm nowhere near tired like I was preop, cholestrol, etc is normal. This has truly been a lifesaving event for me. I wouldnt tell you to do or not to do it, but it was def the right thing for me to do. Oh, and I have a whole bunch of new online buddies that make my life so much richer

I got cold feet one time after seeing a surgeon. It didnt seem right to me to do it at the time but then I figured out it was more the surgeon I didnt like. I would encourage anyone whom thinks they can control or get a hold of there weight on there own without surgery to do so. I was not that person.
About 6 months after my first surgeons visit I went to see another Dr. and this one I trusted automatically. The regret I have to this day is letting my self weigh 363lbs. It destroyed my body and I still pay for it.
This is your decision honey. If you dont feel comfortable right now doing it dont. When the time is right or if it ever is for you .............. you will know it. Take care.

| Carylk - Vickie has a very valid point. What I didnt go into on here is that it took me probably 6 years to decide to have the surgery and then the process took about 1 year for me to do the diet, document, appointments and then I was waiting til summer so I would have someone at home with me. I had some concerns and we all think twice about "going under" but by the time I had my surgery, I was truly ready for it and at peace with my decision.

I can not tell you which surgery to have all I can do is tell you about my decision. I do not regret a moment of what I have done, I feel so much better lighter than before. There are times that I wish I could eat certian foods but in reality the foods that I miss are the ones that were bad for me, so I then say that it is good that I wont eat these. I wish you luck in your decison process, do what is in your heart.
