Default Calcium Citrate Powder?

Someone (Dave...was that your name? Ed? Sorry...) mentioned that he took calcium citrate powder instead of the chewable, which I have not found available on a shelf...only online.

The calcium citrate powder I have seen on the 'net does not have vitamin D...aren't we supposed to have D with the CC?

I know...I know...ask the nut. Maybe someone here knows off the top of his/her head.

Thanks!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

You should have vitamin D in your multi....and if I'm not mistaken, ragdolldude, the one taking the calcium powder has experienced a vitamin D deficiency....I'm sure he'll fill you in!

I do take the calcium citrate powder, and I don't think it has vitamin D in it. But I do also take a good liquid vitamin that has vitamin D in also (150% RDA), and just a trace element of iron. I should add that I often supplement this calcium citrate powder with a liquid vitamin D that is also place in my morning oatmeal or shakes later in the day. I'll have new tests done in about a month for my 2 year check up, so I can tell everyone how I'm doing in that department.

Yes you need VitD for calcium to be metabolised properly. Incidentally, VitD also helps phosphorus metabolism as well. You also need sunshine to help the process along. Hence, VitD is also called the "sunshine vitamin".

Funny thing was that I exercised daily by walking 1 to 2 times for 1 1/4 miles in southern CA. I'd think that would help the vitamin D, but I flunked the blood panel Vitamin D levels 3 times, even though I had the 50K IU gel caps for 12 weeks at a time. Finally passed the test in the low normal range by switching to liquid vitamins and adding a liquid vitamin D to my morning oatmeal.

Read the label on your form of calcium citrate. MOST of them have at least 400 IU per dose. But not all of them. The powder I use does not have the added vitamin D, but the liquid vitamin does, taken an hour apart. But I also augment with the liquid D added to morning cereal. Your blood panels should show each of your vitamin levels. Either take a look at your last one or pay special attention to your next blood panel. My liason doctor with Kaiser insurance told me of my lower Vitamin D levels, and had me take the prescription form of vitamin D. I think someone said Vitalady had a powdered vitamin D that is potent.

The only thing the classes taught that stuck in my head was I am NOT to take the calcium with iron.

So if the iron is in the multi (which would probably not be enough iron anyway) I would have to take the calcium another time.

Yes, it's okay so long as your blood level is WNL (within normal limits).
