Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I was wondering if the appendix is shifted during the surgery process. I have been having pain in my right side but it is more around toward the back of the right side instead of the lower right abdomen. It started last Friday with an ache that radiated around the entire right side and was very touchous to the point that I could not lay on my right side that night. I felt better the next day but still had a dull ache all that weekend. Now the ache seems to be gone. The area is very sore if I push on it. I thought maybe it was a pulled muscle, but it does not bother me when execising at all. I can stretch in all directions without pain. I do however had excruciating pain if I bend to the right....especially when getting into bed and bending to the right to lay down....scream and situp pain. Or getting into the tanning bed to lay down from my right side. It seems that it is pinching whatever is inflammed. I am not sure what to do and contemplating see my PCP. What do you think? |

| Super Moderator | It may be gall bladder stones...contact your surgeon pronto both of you, you may need an ultra sound exam. And no, your appendix is not shifted, as it is attached to the base of your ascending colon, and your colon is not touched nor bypassed in any way.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Well, I called the surgeons office and talked to his nurse and she thinks it is a pulled muscle and I should lay off the exercise for a couple of days and give it time to heal. I still have a call into my PCP. My daughter has an appt today at 4:00 and I am trying to see if I can slip in at the same time and let him check it out. |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | I had my gallbladder removed years presurgical, So I know that pain is excruciating, on the right side under the rib cage. I couldn't sit or stand or do anything during the attack except vomit. Turned out I had gallstones and pancreatitis, was addmitted to the hospital for a week before they could do the surgery. This also was after I had lost 120 lbs on phen phen so I would be very cautious about thinking it is a sprained muscle, weight loss can cause gallstones, please please please get a second opinion. The Dr. had told my husband that I could have died the pancreatitis had gotten that bad.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | For the ones that are taking meds to keep the gallbladder from acting up..... My dietitian told me that I had to consume fats on a daily basis or i would be back in for gallbladder removal. I had mine taken out a few years ago after losing a 100lbs. Now I know I heard her correctly and went and dug out my manual she gave me before surgery and it states on my paper work ......to have atleast 1 1/2 teaspoons of fat a day. It dont break it down to grams. I was a big mayo eater before this surgery and I still eat Kraft mayo not the reduced kind. Not nothing like I used to. It does make sense however because back when I had mine taken out they were just discovering losing weight in a fast way could indeed cause it to flare up. I had a student do a paper on me from it. My pain was under my rib cage on the right hand side. It would even go up into my shoulder and back. I have several episodes of this until I started vomiting from them. I then decided to go to the Drs to have it checked. My own son when he was 11 years old had his taken out because of sludge. Hes a thin boy and always has been. So dont let this go on. If it does it again go when its hurting. They have a much better chance of diagonising it when its flared up. |
