Default Foot Pain w/o NSAIDs. HOW???

Anticipating a quick surgery date (in the next 3 weeks) I have taken myself off all NSAIDs (Non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs... you know ... aspirin/motrin/naprosyn, etc). I am a bit of a bleeder if I have taken any up to 3 weeks before surgery. Found that out the hard way.

I have a pretty wicked case of plantar fasciitis, which is heel pain associated with a strained plantar fascia, or the ligament of my arch. I wear orthotics, for which I paid a butt-load of $$, which pretty much just cause back strain and a very little relief to the actual arch/heel. Motrin WAS my drug of choice.

I am on my feet 6-7 hours/day at work. No way out of it. I do NOT want to take any more time off work so I get a little extra $$ with my disability time off at surgery time.

Anyone know of a website that offers cures that have worked for YOU?

Thanks in Advance.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Yep steriod shot is what my sis-in-law did for it too- but she was in SO much pain the day of and after she couldn't walk- then all the pain went away.

So if you go that route plan to be down a day or two just in case.

We can have a SHOT of ibuprofen right? If so, maybe your doc could give you one?

Discuss with your drs--both orthopedic surgeon (I assume you have one) and your bariatric surgeon. A steroid shot is probably the best option.

And no, I've not heard of ibuprofen shots--at least not in these here parts.
The joint shots you are given are either steroids, or anesthetics, or a mixture of both.
Ibuprofen even in shots (if there is something in the injectible form) in this case will not be good because of where/what the chems in the med affects you. They are no-nos in any form for post ops, with the exception of short term use under the hawk eyes of your dr, as they can cause ulcers, and can cause bleeding as well.

I can relate to your issues with your feet. I had a heel spur on the front side of my left heel of that foot. I had steroid injections (3) and ended up with surgery. The first surgery took almost 6 months to heal. Got special shoes from SAS ($85 a pair in 1985), because my foot would swell two sizes bigger in a day. Finally got healed, then a few years later, the problem reocurred again on the same foot. Had surgery again. Wore inserts in shoes too, but hated those. These steroid shots also tend to make you gain weight too. About anti inflammatory drugs: I know of 2 cases where my surgeon has prescribed Celebrex for patients. In both cases, the patient is instructed to take Prilosec an hour before taking the Celebrex, to help coat the pouch lining. Speak to your surgeon about this--this was the only way these patients could relieve their joint pain.

I know those SAS shoes, Dave! I think SAS hands over stock to podiatrists so they will peddle them. My son, when I wore them, called them "Granny shoes". At the time they were the remedy.

They worked for me for a while, then not. Funny (not) how sometimes a remedy will work and other times they don't. I will deal with podiatry when I am in recovery from WLS. I do NOT want this to hold off my surgery. I have had this off and on for >10 years. It usually resolves itself. As old as I am, I am considering, if it doesn't resolve, having my PF just snapped off surgically. I don't have any arches anyway...can't make it any worse.

Doc- Doc- I didn't mean for a direct shot like cortizone, but can't we get ibuprofen shots for general pain since it doesn't go thru the stomach? I get severe back pain and have been givin an ibuprofen shot before, and wondered if I may be able to get one again if needed. (I have a hard time with pain meds so prefer just a simple ibuprofen) Is it still a no no in shot form or just when taken orally?

See I have to deal with the No NSAID etc stuff every day. I have severe and I mean severe arthritis in alot of my joints including my feet. Celebrex was a great help before surgery but I had to come off it 2 weeks before and im NOT allowed to have it now along with any other good meds as I call them. They have me on Loratab as needed and Ultram. The Ultram works very well acutally if taken with a tylenol thus making it a Ultracet. Its not addictive. I know there have been reports that stipulate perhaps it could be but trust me its not. I was on it 3 years before surgery and come off it 3 months before. I had no withdrawl symptoms what so ever. They have put me back on it pending my appoitment with a Pain Management Specialist because im not allowed to have regular medications they normally treat Arthritis with because of the NSAIDS. Im told I will be given a patch to control the pain so it dont have to go through my new tummy.

So in all ask your Dr what your to do about this. My surgeon is the one that has me on the Loratab for the arthritis pain because he dont want to mess up the tummy.
