I'm sorry, I don't know. I did have a c-section which wasn't terrible. If you had an open I can't imagine it being god awful compared to that. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Well, my mom had open bypass 6 years ago and had a tummy tuck 3 years ago. When I was asking her about the pain from the bypass because I was so nervous she said that she had forgotten all about the bypass pain b/c the tummy tuck was worse. The recovery time for her was longer then with bypass. I know that the panniculectomy is a little different from a tummy tuck so that might make it easier on you. Either way...my mom said the results are so worth the pain....as a matter of fact...she is ready to go back for boobs!!! So my guess is that the physical pain may be a little worse but you will do great, look great, AND have your hernia fixed

Not to scare you but right out of the mouth of the guru. CraigT had open RNY and TT. He told me that the pain from open RNY was nothing compared to the pain from TT. Of course, it's going to depend whether you have it just around the front on your tummy, or if the suture will go completely around the waistline to your back. If it's only on the front to the sides, then you can sleep comfortably on the back, but if it goes all the way around, you'll probably have a bad time for a few days-- at least, that's what Craig said. There wasn't a position he could lie down in without pain for some days post op.

My friend had a tummy tuck and said the first 2 weeks were really hard, but she kept on the pain meds and forgot a lot of it! Since they not only cut the muscles but also suture them (in her case to tighten them(, I imagine it would hurt. BUT you know she said she would do it again in a heartbeat, so the end result is what matters! |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Sometimes I think the fear of pain may be worse than the pain ~ remember they have good drugs and they will give you what you need to be comfortable. Ask your surgeon for advice on what to do, use, like that binder thing. Hated it at first but grew to appreciate it in a hurry! As Kath says - keep your eye on the prize!!! |

I have no answers for you but I am just a few steps behind you and I am going thru the same things as you. Have an umbilical hernia and need to get it repaired. I am going to see my surgeon tomorrow. I am hoping they suggest getting some of this apron of skin off like they did to you.
