Wink Update and 1 Question (well maybe a few questions)

Hello everyone,
I have not been around a lot between my job and my online gaming league that I run, things have been so hectic. I hope everyone is doing good. Kenya I seen your pic, you are looking so good girl. Health wise everything is good. I finally came to the conclusion that I need glasses and couldn't put it off any longer....lol I will be celebrating my birthday tomorrow, I will be 41 years old. Not to sure what I am doing this year because normally every year I go to dinner for my birthday but since I cant eat but so much I think its just a waste. So I will find something else to get into.

Now onto my question, I am having trouble with the right knee when I walk. First its starts out hurting in the back of the knee but the more I walk it finally comes to the front. As long as I am sitting down its okay but I walk every evening and during lunch for my exercise but now its hurting. Has anyone had this same problem? I am finding myself going home every day to soak in a hot tub of water. I think my body is just backwards. You would think it would hurt when I gain all the darn weight not when I start to lose it......Only me.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

You may have "pulled something" in your leg, and it may need further medical evaluation. If this is preventing exercise, that one item that is definitely needed for weight loss), have you seen those chair exercise videos? When I had my nutrition class for RNY surgery, a fitness trainer brought in one for a demo. Most of them are on DVD, and you sit in a rigid straight back chair. We tried some of the exercises, and after a few minutes, you're sweating. These exercises were developed originally for geriatric patients in nursing homes. But people with weight problems and mobility problems can take advantage of them too. Many DVD stores or online sites offer these for sale. If there's nothing medically wrong with your leg, you could used these chair exercise videos to get in some exercise, without straining your leg.

Congratulations on your weight loss so far, good job!!!

You had better have your knee seen by an orthopedic surgeon. It probably sustained damage (even if you didn't have any symptoms then) while you were carrying a lot of weight. Until then you need to keep off your knees as much as you can. For exercise, you should do just upper body exercise for now, until you get a proper diagnosis, and firgure out what needs to be done.

The reason you have just started getting the pain now is that, even though you had some damage for some time, the fatty tissue around your knee helped prop the knee up and support it when you carried a lot of weight. Now, that *wall* is gone, and you still haven't developed the muscles you need to support the knee, so the pain started.
Actually, you aren't the only one who start having joint pain issues in various places post op after you lose a certain amount of weight. The reason is the same as what I've written above.

(((((HUGS)))) Hang in there, I hope it can be properly dealt with soon.

I had two knee surgeries in the mid 90s and its true that you can have damage there and not really know it. I found when the back of my knee hurts its from swelling. Maybe you should try ice instead of heat. My orthopedic surgon used to say "Ice is your friend" lol.. But don't just walk it out because if it is damaged you will make it worse..Believe me I know.. I worked for months on my knee then till it was so bad that I couldn't walk at all anymore and I came to find that I had just made the tear in my cartilage worse.

Funny. The decision to just call an orthopedic surgeon in some part of the world is foreign here in parts where managed medicine (read: HMO/PPO) is the norm.

For non emergent cases to get to see an "orthopod" here means waiting sometimes weeks for the PCP then waiting for the referral to go through (maybe a week...for my bariatric surgeon, almost three weeks) then wait sometimes weeks to see the orthopod.

I mentioned knee pain to my PCP last summer, and he said after my surgery he would direct me to MRI/ortho. In the meantime, I began taking glucosamine/condrointin supplements and, after a month, the pain was gone. I now take it half dose daily for maintenance. Post-op, I can take it liquid form.

My 2 cents. Your mileage may vary.
