Prior to my surgery I was taking Mobic for the arthritis in my knees. I was told to no longer take it. I just got back into walking 2 miles a day and my knee is really sore the next morning. Can I never take NSAIDS again? I have tryed Tylenol and all of the other over the counter drugs throughout the years and nothing helps like Mobic does. I also get a steroid shot once every three months but that is not enough to alleviate the pain. I am worried that I will have to give up my walks if my knee gets alot worse. The permanent solution is to get a knee replacement but my Dr. and I are trying to prolong that option and I would hate to be laid up for all of that time after just having WLS. I feel like it is such a viscious cyle... lose weight to make your knee feel better...... so you have to exercise to lose weight .....which is very difficult with a bad knee!!!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I Completely Understand Your Frustration.. I Have Chronic Upper Back Pain, Nothing Has Relieved It, Thus Far..
They Say No To Nsaids Due To The Increase Risk Of Gi Bleed With The Use Of These Meds.. Have You Tried Ultram??
Sometimes When I Use That & Tylenol Ex It Takes Off The Edge...
Good Luck.
Lol,

The answer is, basically, no, you can't take it.
On the short term you can, with great care, but not as early out as you are. After a year or two, it can be taken for a very brief duration, with the okay from your surgeon, and under the supervision of a dr, watching for signs of ulcer and GI bleeding.

The reason NSAIDs are on the no-no list for bypass patients is because it often causes ulcers and erosions which can also cause bleeding. It's known that NSAIDs can cause ulcers overnight in some cases, and suppositories are the same, I have run across patients getting ulcers from the NSAIDs suppos as well as from pills.

Your pouch is still tender and sensitive, still healing, so they are an absolute contraindication at the moment. You will have to work with your surgeon and your dr who's tending to your knee, to find a solution other than these.

Incidentally, here's a list of the can't and can meds.

My dr just gave me a refill on my liquid vicodin so when my feet or hip are killing me I can get some relief. I found I only need half a teaspoon to help relieve the pain to tolerable levels but it only lasts around two hours with that small amt. (Well I have not had excruciating pain again with my feet I have tried to be careful with them.)So I am hoping it stays that way. I know the feeling you have to excersize to lose weight. In my case I have to excersize to get a hip replacement.. sheesh..Its a horrid cycle of crap.

Smease this is a problem I know its one I deal with daily. I to have a really bad knee. Im with Doc on saying to get a hold of your Dr that precribes the Mobic and tell them your situation now. They have to come up with somthing different to help treat it. I to am on liquid Loratab for my arthritis and my surgeon is acutally the one who has precribed it because of the Nsaids. Good luck with this. I know its hard.

Maybe you should ask your doctor about enbrel, I take these injections weekly for my arthritis, and it has been working great. I too used to take mobic and without it i felt crippled, but the enbrel has worked like a charm.

I have arthritis in my neck and have been on 2 meds for years - until, of course, last July! My doctor suggested heat and massage which has helped me. Do you have access to a pool? That may be a good solution for the impact issues and you really do get a good workout in a pool. Hoping you feel better soon~~~
