Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

1) Insulin: there is no guarantee that you will be able to come off this completely, or any other diabetic medication for the matter, as diabetes is not caused just by obesity. The data for RNY is around 80% complete resolution of diabetes, but that also means that 20% will still need treatment for diabetes. The difference is, the level of medication these patients need will go down dramatically with the weight loss.
Also, if you experience dumping frequently, then the raised blood sugar level may be the sugar spike that comes after hypoglycemic dumping. Check your blood sugar levels at fasting, an hour and two hours after eating, and before going to sleep. Keep a food diary along with this. Show the numbers and your food diary to your endocrinologist, or whomever dr is looking after your diabetes. The record will give your dr hints on what's behind the rise, and what to do to resolve it.

2) Hip/joint pain: As a rule, the pain eases with weight loss, but while you are losing, especially in the early stages, it seems many post ops will actually experience an increase in pain. This may be due to several reasons, but one of them is that the excessive fat helped *bolster* your joints in holding up the weight. With weight loss, this fatty *cushion* is gone, but you still have not developed the muscles necessary to support the particular joint. Another point to consider is that the earlier out you are, you will have difficulty in getting in the required nutrients during the weight loss. This may affect your pain level as well. As your weight loss journey continues, and you lose more weight, the pain should get much better. In the meanwhile, consult your dr and have it checked, and dealt with.

I was an insulin dependant diabetic for 15 years prior to surgery. It is still early from your surgery to be off the insulin completely. I had a period of time about 2 months out when my levels would spike at night. I had "dawn syndrome" prior to the WLS. By the time I was 4 months out from surgery, the spiking stopped. Can't explain the medical reasons for it... just the way my body worked it out. I was completely off insuling around 4 - 5 months after surgery. I think our bodys just need time to adjust to the changes...
