Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | Wow you give me hope! A friend told me that the alcolhol slows down the weight loss but I really want a drink for my birthday next month ut I feel like it will be too soon for me. I will be only 2months out! i'm just trying to stay away as long as possible.

| Super Moderator  | Just keep in mind that it will hit you much faster than before, and at less amounts. One glass post op will amount to 5 glasses pre op. Also, never mix alcohol with gas--don't drive when you expect to drink, even if it's just a glass. So long as you are aware of these facts, and are just as careful of alcohol as you are with food, an occasional drink shouldn't do much harm. Best to make it past 3-4 months first, though.

| WLS Master Guru | My surgery was in August 05, and my niece was marrie that October. I had lost about 40 pounds at that point, and ordered my firt postop drink at the wedding. I sipped it all night, and at the end of the reception, some was still in the glass. I think you can have the wine.....just sip. You may see that you don't really want it once you have it in front of you. I can tell you that at almost 3 years post, ANY alcohol I have hits me REALLY quickly, so, like othershave said......be careful, and don't plan on driving! Enjoy your birthday. S
