Default 5 days post-op and constipated.

Actually, I don't know if I am constipated really, or not. I pass gas. I poo'd on Friday. THAT was an interesting event.

I sip Isopure and water all day long. I am taking in about 60 oz fluid/40gm protein/day. I take my supplements, including iron, as recommended by my nutritionists. My belly only hurts when my sip turns into a gulp.

Hub asked if I am not eating, what is there to poop? I explained that the protein and other oddity waste products only go that way.

Paperwork from my surgeon says I should be having daily BMs. I have perused the RR archives for constipation issues in early post-op and find nothing right off the bat.

Can I take Benefiber? Has anyone else? Was Miralax approved for you <1 week post-op?

I know I know...call the surgeon tomorrow. I was just wondering what y'all did.

Thanks!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I had the exact same issue....and I was concerned to. I felt like maybe I wanted to use the bathroom and then when I sat down...nothing. It took me about a week and a half to get regular. My first couple of #2's were really kinda hard but after that I have been regular and haven't ever needed to take any fiber or anything like that sorry about the graphic details!! Hawaii

Miralax is great but clear that with your surgeon first. I had the same problem your going through right now. I still have problems at times. The surgeons now days should really put that in the discharge orders because it seems we all have this issue right after wards. The pain meds are the cause of most of it right now. I use Fleet Glycerin Suppositorys to help now. I dont have to drink nothing and they work good. Nothing going through the tummy to upset it. So mabye that is a solution?

Oh brainy one here actually talked to the ARNP at my surgeons office who assured me I was normal and not constipated, but did I believe her? Nooooo. I took something anyway and got sick as a dog! Things are just different now. She told me that not going as much as I thought I should doesnt mean I am constipated, it's only that if I have pain and difficulty going. So, the ? is that, not are you going everyday. I learned this one the hard way. Having said that, if you are taking iron already, that can constipate you.

Ever since surgery I have not been regular. My hubby also said "What is there to come out? You are only having clear liquids??" Well, I started my vitamins too early, and boy was that interesting! They literally went right through me!! Once I was allowed some real food I started having BM's but they have never been regular.
