| Random pre/post surgical questions...
As I've mentioned, I'm part of a clinical trial and I'm set for surgery on 6/3...but today I began to have anxiety. I don't have anxiety that it's a clinical trial...it's more of a "holy shit what am I doing" moment that I'm having major surgery... So in an effort to combat my anxiety, I'll ask some random questions that are weighing on my mind...
1) I am apparently having a physical as a part of my pre-surgical crap... Now this is a really stupid question...but did they do a pelvic exam? I don't think my yoo-hoo needs to be examined...but I'm just panicking that they'll want to take a gander at my goods as a part of the physical...
2) How long were you guys not allowed to drive after surgery?
3) Did you guys have a freak out moment the morning of surgery? How did you deal with it? I do deal with anxiety quite a bit and I think it's going to sky rocket that morning so I'd love suggestions...
That concludes my stupid questions of the day... Thanks in advance for putting up with my stupidity! You guys rock!

As far as I know.
1) Nope, that's not on the list.
2) Depends, I'd say. You are going to have it done endoscopically, right? Then that should be a couple of days at most.
3) Check the various posts, plenty have had nerves right up to the doors of the OR, with plenty of tears, to boot.
(((((((HUGS)))))) You'll be fine.

No question is stupid, except the one not asked!
My physical did NOT include women parts.
I was cleared to drive after one week and I had to be off all pain meds. So for some people it could be 2-3 weeks I would guess.
I did a mini freak out that morning. I just kept talking to my hubby and he continually reassured me all the positive parts of my choice. Then the Dr. gave me some good drugs and I didn't care! LOL

Im in the same place as you at the moment i have had my pre med it was friday and as im in england i cant tell you how yours will go mine was measurements forms swabs and blood tests so nothing too bad
now my surgery is close and im worried and scared some days im lookng forward to the time afterwards and sometimes i dont think i can go through with it
this board is helping me alot knowing other people are going through and have gone through the same things and im not strange or weird in some way
so basically its ok to be scared and its ok to ask questions voicing our fears makes then smaller
take care and good luck we are all with you

As everyone else said:
1. No lady parts involved!
2. I drove 3 days later (as long as I didn't have pain meds) and it HURT!!! (But it also hurt just being in the car for the ride home WITH pain meds!) Then 3 days later with no pain meds I was fine. So it was 6 days for me.
3. Everyone freaks out on some level. I was ok because I work in the OR and concentrated on seeing their OR to take my mind off of it. Then they gave me the good stuff and it was lights out! I was more nervous than I thought I would be because I'm in OR's all day - I'm just not usually the one on the table!

I deal with boughts of anxiety too and the morning of no nerves but when they started preping me with IV's and all the drs and assistants and nurses came around I was stressed and bawling like a baby for her Mama! LOL!
Its a phase and its so normal that the dr came right up on her own with the good stuff and I calmed down!
Good Luck !!!

Very appropriate ques. not a problem to ask them of us, thats why we are still all here for each other.... No pelvic exam(yeah), Had open RNY, so about 2-3 weeks till I could drive, and stress comes in ALL different shapes and sizes so yep I guess I had a freak-out moment too. Not sorry at all though that I had it done. You'll do great! Kathy

I didn't even have an actual physical. The surgeon didn't require it and my primary care said he had seen enough of me recently...just go get the labs/xray etc. My goods were ignored. lol
I had laporascopic WLS and I was driving day 7. My last pain med was 24 hours earlier.
Yes, I had anxiety the night before, on the drive to the hospital, in the waiting room for pre-op, in pre-op to a point that I almost yelled to the anesthesiologist, "Can I have a cocktail now???" lol
