There should be no problem so long as you clear the standard requirements for blood donations.
However, it may take longer for you to recover if your iron and VB12 levels are on the lower end of normal.
So, if you want to donate blood, then I suggest you clear it with your surgeon first.

Now I've been told here during our blood drives that even if I didn't have the other issues, the WLS puts me in the turn down bunch on giving blood. 2 other gals I know at the hospital who have only had the WLS got turned down for donating blood too. No one seems to be able to put their excuse on it expect "it's our policy not to take blood donations from WLS at any time"..

That is strange, I have never had any problems with giving, unless I had a problem with my iron. I have given twice now since my WLS. I guess that each place differs...or maybe they made their decision based on your blood type. I used to give at the blood drive where I worked and now that I am no longer working, they call me at home and ask me to come in to donate. It seems that they are always in need of AB+ here.

I have thought about this myself quietly of course and wondered the same thing. I know before I had surgery the only time I got turned down was because I had surgery within one year of trying to give blood.
Since summer is comming up and the blood donation drops in the states its a good time to find out for sure if im eligible or not.

i called my surgeon yesterday cuz i wanted to give blood on monday at a blood drive...he said for sure not b4 you are a year out maybe even 2 years
