My sister-in-law had the surgery about 5 years ago and can eat sweets, and lots of it at one time. Needless to say, she has gained back ALL of her weight and then some. I have decided that I am not even going to start eating sweets. When I want something sweet I drink some flavored water or something like that to satisfy me. For right now that does it for me. Hopefully I can continue that and not give in to a craving.

For me, but I am only 3 1/2 months out, small amounts of anything so far is working. I had 4 bites of a cheesecake at work and didn't even want to finish the last 2 bites I had on my plate. I can stop at 2-3 m&m's no problem. Sometimes I just want the taste and I'm good. Even the 100 cal packs work for me. I had a major sweet tooth pre-op, so for me, giving in to the little bit I want here or there stops me from over doing it and dumping. I don't even know if I dump off sugar because I haven't had enough at once to find out!

I dont understand why you whould have surgery and then force yourself to feed your face... I just don't get it now that I am Diabetes Free I have a chance a Real chance to double my life expectancy Hopefully I will make it to 70 (I really hope so). So when I hear stories like this one I really wonder what went wrong.... I am not perfect and of course I have fallen from Grace (when eating forbbiden food) but hey I just need to think about 12 years of Diabetes and all the party gifts that come with it and simply NO THANKS ....

I am 2.5 weeks out...if I have more than 10 grams of carbohydrate, I MUST go to sleep. for 2 hours. I know. I ate baby prunes for one breakfast this week (20 gms. carbs) and within an hour I was fast asleep. This is an example of the "dump". I cannot react this way at work, as I am in movement and on my feet all day.

When I get a sweet craving I eat only dark choc and just a bit or 2 and that is enough, but this not that often any more, I try and stay away from all sweets I don't want to fall into that habit again. I do dump from many different things if I eat to much of it so I be careful not to over eat on anything. Just be causious after you have your surgery and try not to push anything.

I wouldn't even try. I ate one M&M and I was dumping for 2 hours. I felt like I was going to die. I can;t do any form of sugar, beef, or anythign fried. However, I see it as a blessing because those things are not good for me anyways! =)
