I had RNY, and most of the people who attend the 3 support groups I go to have had RNY. We have several women over 60 who have had RNY, but don't really know what to say about women over 60 vs the lap band. DAVE

Good Luck in your decision! I know that the seminar is what made me change my mind...I went with full intentions of having the lap band and changed my mind before I left.

Me too - I started out thinking about the lap band but once I went to seminar changed my mind. I think you start out thinking you want to do the less invasive procedure, but after researching and seeing who has what results, and who has failures (not that there aren't success stories with the lap band), for me it was the bypass. What reason does your nurse practitioner give that has to do with women over 60 not doing well with lap band?

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | For me it's not an age issue. I knew I would cheat with the lapband, and there would be no immediate consequences for that. With RNY there is, at least, the possibility of dumping and all the lovely consequences of sugar and/or fat intake. Thankfully, I dump bigtime on sugar which was my greatest enemy. For longterm success, I thought my best option was RNY. Do lots of research and talk to your medical providers to see what option is best for you. Good luck! |
