Wow -- that is awesome that you have gotten so far under what their goal for you was! I understand your concern about getting "too skinny", though. I am the same height as you are and if I weighed 136 I think I wouldn't have an ounce of fat on me...course I have big bones, too...hmmm...let us know what you figure out that works!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I would think, given your height, you need to add more healthy calories now! I'm about an inch under you and I'M EVEN starting to get concerned about continued losing. I'm starting to NOT like what I see in the mirror and I'm still 20 pounds over you & shorter!

I know you visited with a surgeon about plastics...is that still in your plan? You will have to account from some loss there too.

You look great....I wouldn't think you would want to lose any more...I remember the old rule of thumb....100 punds for 5 feet and 5 pounds for every inch over that...that would put you optimally at 145. I don't know how accurate that formula is...maybe Doc has some insight on that too! Seems like everyone goes by BMI anymore...

The rule of the thumb will put you a bit low, actually. If you add another 5lbs to the formula, that is just about right, you come up to approx BMI 22. In other words, 105 for 5 feet, then add 5 for every inch.

What about regular protein shakes? Not the low carb ones for us... Do you dump off those?

Hey, Doc, does that rule apply to guys too? That would put my goal down around 150. I don't know if I have the guts to lose another 30+ pounds!!!

BMIs and standard weights are genderless in the medical world.
Actually, there are other parameters you can use (provided you have access to one of those fancy scales that tell you the percentage of your body fat, your lean mass, bone mass, yada yada yada) added to your weight, to see if you are well balanced or not.
By calculation, 168lbs will put you in the normal weight range, BMI-wise. Does that sound better for you?

You (and every one else) should always keep in mind that you had the surgery to regain your health, not to get model thin, nor even to get to BMI 22. Your surgeons will probably set the goal, if ever they are the goal setting type (I know many surgeons won't even give goal numbers to their patients) first to the level of weight that will get you below BMI 30 into the overweight range, so that is a more realistic goal. Which means, da perfesser, you are already there.

My surgeon said that 165 is what the tables recommend but he doubted I'd ever see it. He told me I ought to follow what my body tells me about what works for me. Which I think is somewhere around 180 +/- 5 lbs. That would give me a BMI slightly above 25. I'm not terribly worried about such simple measurements that only look at a couple of parameters. They're too easy, and I don't like the one-size-fits-all approach. According to BMI, most professional athletes, like Michael Jordan, are way overweight. Not that I am in that shape, but there are limitations. BMI is an indicator, to be used with others, as a guide. Besides, 25 is a whole lot better than 40! My body and my wife are both telling me to hold up this weight loss and set a spell here to see how it works.

I'm healthy here, I feel good, so even though the Century Club is so seductively close, I may never cross that threshold. I'm totally happy with what I've gotten back as a result of what I've lost.
