Default Joint pain and leg pain

I have a question for anyone that might have the answer(s).

I'm 15 months out and usually when I'm idiol or when it is cool air or in the evening time my joints (elbow, knuckles, knees and feet) start to ache. Is there a reason to this. I didn't have these issues before the surgery. I take my supplements as per doctors request and have added probiotics per PA's advice.

Also, at night and my legs seem to kind of hurt or cramp (no jerking) at night when I go to bed. The PA said I had restless leg sydrom, but I don't know if I agree with her.

Is there anything I can do to control the pain in my joints as well as my legs at night time. If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it.

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Are all your levels good?
No vit deficiencies, your electrolyte levels good, etc etc.
Also, did you have any back issues before? You could have a bad back that isn apparent, but still can cause problems some time. A neurological check might be a good thing to have done.
It's best to ask your surgeon, just to be safe.
(((((HUGS)))) Hope you feel better soon.

Sounds like part of it is Arthritis. I have trouble with cold temps myself and my joints killing me. I dont know about your legs hurting unless its in the joints. Somthing you might try is ....Tylenol Pm. It will relax you and control the pain hopefully.

Do you feel well? I noticed your weight is 109. Tiny Tiny.

The pain isn't unbearable but its a pain (no pun intended) to deal with.

As for my legs, for the most part its not necessarily in the joints, just through the thigh - calve area of the legs. I take 1/2 a loritab pill for it, otherwise the irritability doesn't go away nor can I go to sleep or if I do fall asleep then it is for a short time and I wake up because of the irritability of my legs.

As for my vitamins, I just went through nuclear bone scan, MRI, and some extensive blood work with my PA and hematologist and they both said everything was normal, but wanted to see me again in 3 months to make sure everything was normal.
(The reason I had all the above done is I had a bad infection (from my gastric by pass) that showed its ugly head during PT w/ shoulder. Long story but there is the gist of it.)

Maybe this too is something I’m going to have to just live with. J

Does your insurance cover accupuncture. I am a big natural medicine advocate. please don't let them give you anything for restless leg syndrome, that stuff is sewage. Do you sit alot for work, has anyone pursued psyatica (sp?). My nephew went to my accupuncurist for growing pains, he felt better in one session, all
better in two sessions. Accupuncture really helps for nerve stuff. I went before surgery and for healing, lots of things. I am going now for healing my bladder, its weak from all the previous weight I had. its worth going a few times. I'd walk on coals if it would help, ya know, explore all avenues within reason.

I agree with MsVickie, the way you describe the pain does sound like sciatica.
Was your bone scan whole body? The MRI for your spine? If that's so, and nothing came up, no opressed nerves or displaced disks, then that does rule out sciatica in most cases, unless the offending nerve opression was too little to be detectable under normal conditions.
What position do you take when you sleep? On your side? Your back? Or your tummy? If on your side, have you tried using a hug pillow? If on your back, place a rolled up towel or a narrow thin pillow, just large enough to fit in the small of your back and support it. If this relieves the pain, opressed nerves could be the cause, so let your dr know that doing so improved your pain. Your dr should take things from there.
((((((HUGS))))) I hope you get this issue resolved soon.

I agree with Vickie on the point that is sounds like arthritis. That is exactly how I feel even in the summer if just a cool breeze from the fan or window at night makes my feet ach. So if your levels are all good and there seems to be no real reason for it that can be related to your wls well perhaps it is just as simple as arthritis. Well dont take that the wrong way..lol Its not simple by any means and is very painfull.

Yes my insurance covers accupuncture, may need to give it a whirl.
The bone scan and MRI were only done on my left arm and left lung area of my body.
If this is either arthritis orsciatica how come these things are happening to me now and I didn't have these symptoms before the surgeries?

All I know is so much has changed in my body since my gastric bypass surgery. It is all worth it, but just trying to work out the bugs... so to speak.

Thank you all for your responses.

Could be due to a few factors.
1) if you have gone through menopause, then you need to be aware that women start losing bone substance due to the hormonal changes.
2) even if your blood levels are good, you may not be absorbing enough Calcium to keep your bone density good. Was it good enough with your MRI?
3) When you had a lot of fatty tissues, they tend to help *prop* up the back bones--sort of like a very thick corsette--so even if you have a bad back, the symptoms don't get bad enough for you to notice.

Since your bone scan and MRI were done in the area not related to your present problem, and I take, for a different medical issue judging from your various posts, then you do need to have your back checked out, and be examined specifically for your leg pain issue. You need to keep in mind that different substances and different markers are used for diagnositc imaging for different issues, even if you had something done in the past, it may not have been the kind most effective in discovering what is causing your present issue.

I suggest you talk this over with your PA, and insist on being examined further by a specialist if she tries to brush you off.
It there's a problem, it's best to catch it early out, and since you have had quite some issues post op, leave no stone unturned for the safety of the rest of your journey.
