| More random questions from the queen of stupid questions!
With surgery just 200 hours (but who's counting?) until surgery...I have a few more random questions!
1) I'm a stomach sleeper. Did you guys find it easy to sleep on your back while healing? Did you eventually feel okay sleeping on your stomach? I've heard sleeping in a recliner initially was helpful -- any thoughts?
2) My mom, whose house I will be staying at for the first five days, asked me at dinner tonight if I will feel comfortable joining her and my stepdad at dinnertime when I'm recooperating. I thought this was sweet she asked. Did you guys feel better eating at the dinnertable or did being around food make things more difficult after just having the surgery? My instinct initially said that I'd want to sit there as it might make me stretch out the 30 minutes that is has to take me to drink my shake for dinner so I don't just gulp it down which I know is wrong and that maybe I could take a small sip every time I see my mom take a bite or something. Any thoughts?
3) Would you suggest taking a button down shirt to wear out of the hospital or did you have any trouble raising your arms up and down to put on a shirt when you were leaving the hospital?
Thanks in advance! You guys rock!

I am a all over sleeper any way it is comfortable, I did have a hard time with the right side and didn't even attempt the stomach, what I did was prop a pillow in front of me and used that for cushion it helped alot.
I did sit at the table with my husband after about a week or so. And no I didn't have a hard time raising my arms above my head, I just wore a t-shirt.
I hope this helps you out.

I guess it will all depend. I was a stomach sleeper but i STILL to this day sleep on my back and or sides from time to time. i remember being propped up on the sofa for a few days but after that i made it to my bed.
eating with others is something you may have to play by ear. im serious LOL. depends on which stage you are in when it comes time. some are depressed, som are angry etc LOL. i didnt even want to look at food.
as for the shirt thing, again the degree of pain will depend. i did fine with a loose t-shirt. good luck

I am a side sleeper. I have a really short neck, and I cannot sleep in a recliner because it pushes my head down.
I couldn't lie on my side for 7-10 days. (don't worry...I asked the same question here too. ) You will have medication to help you sleep. Take advantage of it. Use it at bedtime to knock you out the first week or so, so you won't mind not moving during the night. The first night I ventured in sleeping on my side, I placed a rolled up towel under my gut to help support its weight. That may help.
Also, have a cane or in my case, a golf club, by the bedside to help you pull yourself upright from the edge of the bed. That "cane" also helped in my stability walking "under the influence".
How sweet for the family to ask for you to come to the table. You can have a little Jello with a baby spoon at your setting, with your forever-at-your-side bottle of water. I think that would be a great way to stretch out for a little while.
I did not have a problem raising my hands over my head post-op.
Good Luck to Ya!

You are having an endoscopic experimental procedure that involves no skin incisions, right?
In that case, you shouldn't have to worry about being able to sleep on your stomach, side, etc, as whether or not you feel comfortable/uncomfortable in a certain poisition is affected by the incisions, and also, how much of your abdominal cavity is involved--which is none, as it's only your stomach that will be handled.
So, you shouldn't have any trouble raising your arms, etc, either.

| Boy, Doc, you're always right on top of things!!! As to the eating with others - just wait to see how you feel. The smell of some foods bothered me, others not at all. You may just set a new standard for feeling well after surgery as you shouldnt have any issues related to the "surgery" aspects (wounds, etc) Congrats on being so close to the losing side ~ wishing you the best!

200 hours? Great? Are you kidding me? I'm flipping out!!! A friend asked me if I'm going to back out yesterday and I told him it's simply not an option. I don't want to live the life I'm currently living. Unfortunately, that doesn't keep me from freaking out. In the shower...if I'm driving alone...it's easy for me to start crying over all of this. I'm seriously getting way too much anxiety.
Doc -- Yes, I will have incisions. It's laparoscopic and the surgeon said 4-ish incisions, one being an inch long, the rest being a half inch. How many incisions do regular laparoscopic patients have?

I had 4 incisions with my lap RNY. As for sleeping, I didn't have any problems after the lap surgery. I slept in the bed no problem. One thing everyone will tell you is to take your pain meds. Do it! Don't think you can get by without them. Actually with my surgery I wasn't in that much pain after I got home so I took them in the daytime as needed, but one before bedtime was a blessing. I never slept so good than when I was on Vicodin!
