| 30 Minute Meals?? Come On Now...
I took, per order of my ins. co/medical group, 6 months of nutrition classes focusing on pre/post op bariatrics. We learned how we were eating before, how we were to eat immediately post-op, and how we were to eat "forever".
OK. I have been eating "regular food" for a couple weeks now. Yes, surgeon and nutritionist approved.
I pack a half sandwich on whole grain bread (the Whole Food/Trader Joe's kind). And 5 strawberries. That is lunch. About 200 calories.
There is no way in Hades that I could stretch that amount of food out to 30 minutes. Chewing 20-40 times per little mouthful to total mastication, which is how I have chewed since I re-introduced soft solid foods, the LONGEST I have taken to eat that is about 6-7 minutes.
What the heck are you all eating to where it takes 30 minutes?? I am serious!

I dont think its the amount we are eating honey. I just simply take my time eating it. Im a drinker when I eat. Just small sips but I have to have them. I know I know we are not supposed to but I cant break my habit and need somthing to help it down. That is my explanation of it anyways. I dont always take 30 whole mins but I do try to stretch it out because I wont be hungry if i do it this way.

depends on what you are eating. i would probably take 30 minutes to eat the half sandwich nevermind the berries lol! i read somewhere, might have been here, that you should eat as slowly aspossible because there is a lag between stomach and brain. by the time your brain 'gets' that your stomach is full, you have over eaten. if you slow down there is time. chew slower take smaller bites...

It takes me more than 30 minutes to eat certain foods. Foods like steak and porkchops take me longer, my husband will be done with his meal and puts his dishes in the sink and I am still eating for another 15 minutes. I have noticed that I eat my meals slower now than before sugery. I swear that I never chewed my food before surgery and that I just swallowed my food. I can taste my foods now that I eat. I am also a drinker with my meal. I could not get my food down without drinking a little bit of water to get it down. So I called my nutritionist about my problem and told me to go ahead and have a little sip if that what it takes to get my food down. But I do sometimes do not have to take a sip with softer foods and it only usually happens when I eat steak or porkchops or a type of food that is dryer. My daughter has to do the same thing as I do to get the food down. It is not a big swallow it ia a very little sip just to help get the food down.

I don't take 30 minutes to eat either. But I'm not eating a sandwich - so that must take some what longer. I do try to eat and chew slower - but it maybe takes me 10 minutes to eat and that depends on what I'm eating...a yogurt or cottage cheese, no way more then 5 minutes, 1 slice of toast with cream cheese, 5 - 6 minutes. Maybe later when I'm eating steak and stuff like that, but still, I don't see a whole 1/2 hour. |

I measure out what I am supposed to eat and I chew set down my fork....pick it back up again. I do not take one bite after another. Maybe try taking some time between bites. I don't usually take 30 minutes...usually 15-20. If I am eating out...I go extra slow so that I eat less and get a warning incase something doesn't sit well...that way I haven't eaten too much before I realize it doesn't work. I have only dumped 2 times in 4 months and have never puked. Knocking on wood now. I did read some where I think on here...that if you eat too fast it can stretch your stomach.

Heck I don't have 30 minutes to eat! I take 15-20 when I focus and go slow. Lately I have gotten bad about eating faster and need to slow down!

we were told meals shouldn't ever take longer than 15 min..over that, and remember if your pouch is small to begin with 1 oz. then 2-3 bites is all it's gonna take and small ones at that, over 15 min you begin sneaking more food in..
that's what were were told..drink up to 25 min before, count down timer, then eat, then stop! then wait at least 25 min to drink again.
Its always interesting how different everyone's instructions are..the whole 3 meals a day thing I could never do.

It depends on what I'm eating, but I've taken as long as an hour to eat my dinner (with meat) or eggs for breakfast. I try to do other things and take a bite once in a while because if all I do is eat, I'll eat too fast (eating slow compared to before, but still too fast) and it will get stuck. It just really depends on the food and how I feel eating it.
