Question Sleep study?

This is a crazy question but I want to know about a sleep study, whom had this test? When I met with the dr. they didnt mention giving me a sleep study. But when I attended the new patient meeting the dr. said that they give all of their patients the sleep study. Now im wondering why my doctor just asked do I have it? I said I have never been tested and he said okay and moved on? Should I confront this question again on 9/1, or call the office and ask, I dont want any hold ups on my 10/3 surgery date.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Sleep study is to confirm if you have sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is one of the co morbs of obesity, and an indication for the neccessity of weightloss surgery.

If the surgeon said that sleep studies are something that every patient has to have then i would ask your Dr. to scheduale one for you now. Can't hurt anything, and that way you are sure. Sleep studies are abit uncomfortable but definitly worth it if it's going to aid you towards your surgery.

(I've had so many sleep studies over the years because of my narcolepsy and sleep apnea, don't worry about them, they are a breeze. You can do it with your eyes closed (hehe ) literally.

Free you are making me laugh so hard on that one. You are awesome. I agree though...when in doubt ask. I didn't have to have one prior to surgery, but if you are concerned double check.

Oh, yeah, I just remembered.
If you have sleep apnea, it's going to cause some trouble immediately post op when you are recovering from the anesthesia. The apea is going to cause the alarms to go off (and some members of this board have experienced this) so if you are proved to have sleep apnea, you will probably be asked to bring along your CPAP to prevent apnea post op. Keep in mind apnea does not improve until you have lost some weight, and immediately post op, you've only just had your surgery, you have not yet lost the weight you need to.
So, if in doubt, or if your DH complains of severe snoring (which can be a sign of sleep apnea) or notices that your breathing stops for several to 15, 30 seconds when you are sleeping, ask your dr Qs, and maybe for a study.

Hi Jessica,

I had the sleep test, 2 nights worth.
I also was diagnosed with sleep apnea. I had oxygen in my home during the time before surgery, but no longer need it now.

I did have some complication right after surgery and was on the ventilator a little more time then usual, but that was me.
I didn't get alot of weight off before my surgery and I truly beleave that I would have had an easier time if I had. Like Doc said it can happen.
If you can work on that little detail (losing some of your weight, even a little) you will be so much better off.

Good luck to you, and hope your meeting goes well.
