Question To New Whey or not to New Whey?

I am a memeber of my local online group in Indiana and there has been conversations about the protein quality (or something like that)of the New Whey protein bullets not being good for post-ops.

Doc, I have been using New Whey protein bullets since becoming a post-op in Feb. I do not particularly like protein shakes or super sweet drinks. So adding the bullets in water is perfect for me.

Question: Should I be using a better quality protein? If so, what is a better type (brand) that I can mix with water that won't make it too sweet?

Thanks in advance

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Some of us had heard that too - do this...my friend Kim (antbunni) actually called the company to get a straight answer - P.M. her and she can tell you exactly what she was told. Bottom line, yes they work, but to make yourself feel better about it and so you know what you are doing is right, get the whole story from her - look up in members list 'antbunni' and send her a message

I tried them....went OK for the first 2...then for some reason, I couldn't stomach them. I was also told that you cannot possibly ingest that much protein at one time, so I switched back to PROFECT, which only has 25 grams per vial. I try to use food more as protein, but always have these handy to fill in the gaps!

There are 2 versions of the New Whey bullets, the 40 gram of protein and the 25 gram. Yes, the 40 is too much to digest at one time, unless you mix it with whatever water or juice and break it up over the course of the day. I occasionally use the 25 gram one (Blue Raspberry) when I need a boost (still) with protein.

Kathy, Is the PROFECT protein a bullet like the New Whey in that you can mix with water? I am getting to the point where I do not need the bullets with 42grams because I am getting more protein via food. I was thinking about switching to the 25gram New Whey. However, I am up to trying new things too. Especially if I can mix with water. Thanks

Bottom line, best to get in all your protein from real food rather than shakes and bullets.

That said. The following is the issue as I remember reading somewhere.
I don't remember which brands, but the protein included in some bullets are in the collagen form, which bypass patients can't absorb (it has to be broken down and absorbed in the portion that's bypass with RNY) so you may end up lacking in protein when you are counting that you've gotten enough.

I have noticed if I take a protein drink (40 g protein) and sip it throughout the day (on top of my normal liquids) I feel much better. It seems like doing it in increments makes me feel better- but maybe it's in my head! If I drink one in one sitting I just don't feel like my body is getting what it needs to be fueled and repair itself all day....again just me, but if I THINK I have more energy I will keep doing it! LOL
