Default Appetite Changes Before Surgery

Did anyone experience loss of appetite the few weeks before you had surgery? I go under the knife in 2 weeks, and for the last 2-3 weeks I've noticed real changes in my appetite and cravings. I simply do not crave some of the junk food I couldn't live without a month ago. I'm not complaining . . . just wondering what the heck is going on. Went to the dr. to make sure I wasn't sick, and I'm definitely not preggers! I think the change may be psychological.

I actually feel nauseous thinking about potato chips, cookies, and other "bad" foods. I haven't consciouslly changed myeating habits, other than decreasing my caffeine intake and increasing my water and other non-caloric liquids. I just don't feel very hungry. If I go out to lunch, I'm only eating half and taking the rest home. I'm eating three meals a day. but not needing snacks, or if I snack, it's something healthy like fruit.

I know that most of the reason I got to my current weight is by emotional eating--eating when I was happy, sad, stressed, etc. I *think* by reading this forum I am already picking up some of the habits of those on the loser's bench. You guys inspire me so much--is it possible that your examples are helping me get control of my eating even before surgery? Has anyone else had this experience?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I didn't lose my appitite, but I did eat less, maybe nerves, maybe because some ninny in my surgeons office said out loude 'And don't gain any weight!' - you would think the people who work in a weight loss surgeons office would be a little more tolerant - sigh - anyway. I also didn't have that 'last meal' syndrome.
Go with it, good for you whatever reason.

I had to be on a liquid diet for 3 months before surgery. So that also included all veg. that I wanted to eat and I got very creative with veg. and for about a little over a month I could only have 3 to 4 oz meat a day. But I could not have any peas or corn, to many carbs. Doctor wanted me to lose as much as I could before, for a safer surgery. I was scheduled to have my surgery Aug. 6th but doctor wanted me to lose more so I had my surgery a month later and I lost 36 pounds in those three months. The first week was hard for me and then after that I was ok eating what I had to eat. I also cooked regular meals for my husband and that did not bother me, becasue I was determined to have my surgery.

I don't remember losing my cravings too much. But I pretty much LIVED in my cravings for the last 5 years. When DH got laid off and eventually retired, I could no longer afford to go out for fast food breakfast, so I made the equivalent at home. I think that really cut down my desire to eat elsewhere, except for my "fare-well tour" of all my "favorite" foods. Side note:

The only previous favorite food I still crave is sushi, and I found last night that pouchy likes sushi. yay! I thought I ate a TON but DD counted and said I had, in 35 minutes, 2 tempura veggies and 6 pieces of various sushis. A LOT of food, I know, but evenly distributed and (to sound like me, pre op) I didn't eat lunch or dessert. LOL

I ate less also. Partially because of nerves and partially because I was mentally ready to get the weight off!! I think it is a good thing...like you are mentally preparing for what is going to change in your life. July will be here before you know it!

I ate less the week before surgery, but I think it was because I had stuffed my self the weeks before with "last meal" syndrome. By the time surgery was nearing I couldn't even think of eating another last meal! Be glad you are craving things less, maybe it will make it easier after surgery!

I ate my way clear up to the day before surgery, my surgeon was upset that I gained before surgery when he had hoped I would lose something. But I had this overwhelming drive to eat everything I could think of "one last time", well, even though I trooped on through this, I usually got sick. I didnt even have to overeat, I think maybe it could have been my nerves, or my body just screaming for it to be over with. But most days I was sick to my stomache.
