I don't have the As to everything
That said, it could be due to one of the following, or a combination of some.
1) detox due to not eating trigger foods during pre op diet, and being on IV fluids for a day or two.
2) immediately post op, due to the actual invasion of the surgery (I'm sure you've all experieinces some stuff not tasting good when you're sick)
3) detox due to the fact that you can't eat trigger foods for a and extended period of time post op.
4) chewing throroughly instead of *inhaling* (as some of you have expressed) food. Chewing well brings out the hidden flavor of food, so you may or may not like the taste.
5) the effect of texture of food--that changes the flavor of food, too.
6) hightened sensitivity to the scent and flavor of food because you have to be careful with food in general post op
7) psychological reflex due to the fact that you had bad experience with some foods the last time.
What comes to the top of my mind at this moment.

I totally think I have a problem with texture/taste changes from chewing too much and now that I think of it...they gave me some god awful protein drinks in the hospital and I felt like I was going to vomit the whole time I was there. When I came home I could not even stand the smell of my protein drinks!! I do think I like my food very hot and very salty post op. I have tried to anaylize this and have come to the conclusion that b/c I can only eat a few bites or small portions that I want as much taste as possible from the food so bland food is not really satisfying to me.

Texture defineatly affects what I eat. If it does not feel right in my mouth, out it will come becasue I gag real easy on textures. I did not care for sweets early out but I got it back again and so I try to eat the healthy sweets that I crave. Chip cravings I do not have all the time but when it hits I got to have something like a chip and that is where the cheetoes come in and my healthy extend crackers that I order. As for hotter foods compared to before, oh yes has that happened to me. When I made chili before surgery, I only would use one pkg chili mix in a kettle full of chili, well now I put in two pkg. in a kettle full. But I had to learn to make a half of a kettle full becasue I am the only one eating it that hot. my hubby will not touch it that hot, so alot of times I take a little away for my hubby before adding the rest. My hubby does not care for alot of chili, so if he has it only once he is happy with that. I could eat chili for a few days in a row. As for chewing it and the flavors comes out now much better. I did not even taste alot of my food before and just chewed and swallowed. Boy did doc hit that one on the nose for me. Now I have to chew and finding out that there are some foods that taste really good and some that I just cannot eat anymore. But I find that I still like alot of variety of foods. I have an example of one such food, it is weird but here goes, I use to love velvetta cheese before surgery and I have tried it a few times and it just makes me sick to my stomach. Well I got this bright idea, since I like hotter foods, lets try the mexican velveeta cheese, well guess what, that agrees with me completly and oh how good that tastes to me and settles real well in the pouch. Now isn't that weird, I have trouble with the low fat or regular velveeta but not the mexican velveeta cheese. Now my pouchy is real weird.
