Default food question...whipped meat??!

hi everyone!
as my date draws near, i am pre planning my future food requirements. i am looking at soft foods and many sites and some of the reading i am doing suggests that i can blend soft meats in the blender. does this mean that i need to make chicken pudding? like baby food texture? or can it be like really slow cooked, falling off the bone meat, like crock-pot only more cooked? i am gagging thinking about whipped meat shakes (!) and the texture. has anyone else faced this? please help!

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

When I was on the pureed food stage I blended chicken with some cranberry sauce and it wasn't half bad. I wanted meat so badly I couldn't wait to eat the mush. I also added alot of garlic salt and black pepper. I had to take really small bites and chew alot even though it was pureed. It wasn't the consistency of baby food, it was chunkier.

Wiggy, I'm wondering the same thing. I'm at the beginning of the pureed stage right now, and the thought of pureed meat makes me gag. I remember when my kids ate baby food, I couldn't stand the smell of it! I'm going to have some veggie soup in a few minutes, and will try mashed potatoes and yogurt (for different meals) tomorrow. I may have to wait for meat until I can chew it!

Canned tuna is "soft meat", as is canned chicken breast. I used a hand blender to puree it when I was in that stage. Compared to a plate with a knife and fork, it's just not satisfying. Compared to coming off the soft food stage, it was heaven!! I pureed ham, chicken, tuna and enjoyed it greatly in contrast to what I had been eating the week previous.

Put it in context. You'll be in this phase for a few weeks, then on to greater things. Until then, you need to survive, so eat!

I found that spices and seasonings were my friend. Tabasco is an essential food group all by itself! There are sauces and flavors that can take even a puree to a higher plane.

Of course, I got used to being creative with soft foods when I ruptured my esophagus years ago. Man, that was a long plane ride when I did that!! I was on soft foods for a month after, and Gerber's gets real old real fast!!

I waited till I felt I could really chew such a small bite. Even then, after chewing for so long, I many times would just spit it out in a napkin, it just wasn't gonna go down for me. I did the soft meats, like the tunas, and chicken in cans. And really mashed it good just with a fork. The few bites you can eat, need to be nutrious, so you do what you have too, if necessary. No way was I gonna pureed my meats. But then I didn't eat any meat till about 4 weeks postop anyway. And baby food, is totally my opinion disgusting. I tried a few differant ones, hearing that is an easy way to eat some foods..... Nope not for me it wasn't.... Soups are a good choice in thise stage, as the meat in them is like nothing, especially the chicken soups.
You will be able to eat meat again, it just isn't something that really appeals to you immediately after you get home anyway. That time will come though. My adult kids would always say, mom, you really dont need that many napkins do you..... Ahh, yes, they found out, I would gracefully put that napkin up to my mouth, and empty my mouth if I had too. Sometimes when you chew something for so long, there is just no juice left in it to get to swallowing it, without feeling like it will get stuck.

These are good suggestions... CT.. you also crack me up. I love reading your posts. I bet you keep your wife in stitches. LOL

Ok.. along with Wiggy's question.. here's another. We have a juicer that is collecting dust in our cabinet. My husband just HAD to have it when we got married and put it on our wedding registry. We used it occasionally but haven't in a long time. Now I'm wondering if I can put it to good use by creating veggie juices to drink after surgery. Is that something that is doable?? Or would that be a no no?? Just curious.

I know that it doesnt sound appealing to you right now, buut trust me, the thought of pureed food when the time gets here will make you dance!!!
I lived off of tuna for almost forever! I found a "Blackend" Seasoning Powder and it was awesome! You will begin to adjust to the tastes.
I think that I tried the baby food for half a day and threw it all away...def wasnt for me at all! LOLOL

I am at the pureed stage now and I tell you I could not wait to eat some chicken or tuna.I put it in my processor with some light mayo, onion powder, salt subsitute and pepper and it tastes like tuna or chicken salad just a little wetter.I also process my creamed soups that have chunks in them. You will be amazed at what you will eat after surgery.

I also did the canned tuna and chicken. I tried the baby food thing, one bite and that was all she wrote! I still have a jar of squash and something yellow in my cupboard. I should mix it in with the dog's dry food, although he is so spoiled with eating half of my food he probably wouldn't touch it either!
