This is done on the day you will go have your PST. That is the lab work etc you have done before surgery.
You will find that people on here are required to do different things than us. Some match some dont. Just like he requires us to see a physchrist before he will schudule the surgery and some on here dont. He requires us to have a EGD before surgery and some dont. Its there own plan.
That is why I found this support forum so useful to me because we dont have a support forum to go to with Dr. Quioco. | I'm so glad you saw this, I know you have been having computer problems. I figured you knew what to do since we are using the same doc. I have noticed he does things differently. I go for pre-surgery bloodwork Monday, so thats when I get this info. Now I feel better, I just got worried hearing everyone on here talk about seeing a nutritionalist beforehand and I havne't even gotten any paperwork yet. Dr. Quioco talks fast sometimes and with the accent I only heard him say I will get that info at the hospital. I know he does not do any siminars or support groups but have thought about going to those that are in Radford at the end of this month. I heard those meetings are mostly band patients and I wonder If I will learn more than what I have read here? I had my last consult with him and glad my husband got to meet him and ask questions. He felt good after the visit and liked Dr. Quioco. I had my EGD and it was all good too, although I remember gagging during it but not fully waking up. I have a mild soreness in the lower throat and later in the day my neck was hurting so bad I couldn't hardley sleep and had to take something for pain. Feels better a day later. Just need to keep loosing more weight beforehand. Also, did Quioco tell you that he makes the opening smaller than most because its harder to make it smaller if some do not have enough restriction that will need surgery to make smaller and he can send a light to balloon it open more if its too tight. But if its too tight you will have hard time keeping anything down. How was yours? Your doing so great by the way, you've lost so much weight and it has not even been 1 year yet.

She was really unsure of this WLS thing, but after she met with the doc, she was okay with the whole thing. She has now started the paperwork for her own surgery.

def. see the nut if insurance covers, most do...
also, talk OUT LOUD to your surgeon, sometimes they just don't READ minds...
i am all too familiar with being a patient advocate, i know sometimes they can be intimidating, but they are human as well, to get answers from him, ASK!!!!!!!!!!!
good luck & let us know how it goes...
LOL,

That kind of surprises me. The most impotant part of this whole process is what you put into your mouth. Yes, I feel it is very important that you seek out a nut. and hopefully your insurance will cover. Heck I saw mine twice before surgery (6 months a 2 weeks pre-op). I couldn't get discharge until she came to see me in the hospital either. I see her again next Monday and surgeon for my 6 month post-op. This will probably be my 4th visit since surgery. She has taught me alot and gives me lots of information that I can read and study. Please check into it.
Good luck with your surgery. It is right around the corner.

Most reputable bariatric programs, in my opinion, have a meeting with a nutritionist before surgery as a part of the program leading up to surgery. At my appointment they covered what my diet was like pre-surgery and what to expect after surgery and how to make things work with my life with work and whatnot.
I do recommend changing habits beforehand. Two of my hardest habits to break have been using straws and drinking with meals. I'd suggest tossing out straws and taking your glass off the table when you eat. I've learned to have servers at restaurants actually remove my glass once my meal comes as it's just too tempting to take a sip of water.
Good luck!

But no one at the drs. office told me this. Thanks for that info because if I did not ask the nurse I was signing papers with forgot all about the nut, so I would not have even met with her if it wasn't for you telling me. I have paperwork on the stages I will go thru and a list of acceptable liquids/foods. I feel much better. Boy the hospital was busy yesterday, I was there for 4 hours doing lab work, heart test and signing papers and meeting with the nut. It really hit me more after speaking with the nut. what a huge thing this will be, plus the date is coming quickly. I keep looking a months down the road how good I will feel. ONLY 2 MORE WEEKS!

YES YES, definitely a nutritionist that can help you before and after surgery. I go to mine EVERY checkup I have with my doc. She has been sooo helpful and holds my hand every step.

The nut. gave me a bunch of papers outlining the different stages with quantitiy and foods that are acceptable with each stage. I was only with her long enough for her to read over all stages and answer any questions. I hope this is enough. I haven't done anything to prepare for after the surgery other than read lots of info and read up on here. I know I will stock up on what I need after the surgery and go from there, following the instructions. Seems like time is flying by.... I hope I have enough info.
