Just to let everyone know I am 3 days post surgery and having a lot of questions that maybe some can be answerred here. I am in the opposite position as I am unable to get all of my water and proteins in. I had surgery on Tuesday and was release from the hospital Wed. Wed night I started vomiting and didn't stop all night. I had to go up to the emergency ward and get 2 bags of IV fluids and they gave me narcon to reverse the affects of the pain narcotics. They also gave me some nausea medicine. Things seem to even out after that but I am still feeling nausaus just not throwing up. I was told not to worry so much about getting my vitamins in at this point but to get my water and proteins in. I try really hard but become nauseaus if I push it. Any help would be appreciated. Also, has anyone else had this problem after surgery and tell me when does it go away?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Congratulations on joining the Losers' Bench.
Sorry to hear you are having a hard time right now.
Take things easy and sip, sip, sip. This early out, you can't gulp water the way you did pre op.
It will get easier but, will take a few weeks until your system settles down a bit.
Keep in mind, you had major surgery, and your insides are still healing, and will need 3-4 months for all your insides to heal, and readjusts to your new plumbing.
((((((HUGS))))) May your journey go well.

I really didnt have any problems with the nausea after I left the hospital and got off the pain meds. I am sorry that you are going through this though. Just take it easy and try to get a few sips of water in so that you wont dehydrate. Call your surgeon if necessary. That is what they are there for.
Oh yeah...Congrats and welcome to the "other side".

I experienced similar problems. It was extremely hard for the 1st 2-4 wks but got much better. Just try and get your liquids in and get much rest. At about 5-7 weeks I started puking everything up, not fun. That stopped and Now at almost 12 wks and doing great and down 68 lbs. You'll get there. Good luck.

Don't worry about the protein this early out, just focus on sip sip sipping as much as you can. I'm sorry you're feeling so yucky. And it may be a while before you can get in what you should liquid wise, but as long as you do the best you can and make an effort to sip as often as possible, the you're doing good!

First of all, welcome to the other side......
You are so new postop yet, take it slow, you are not having to think about anything at this point but to heal. No vitamins are needed yet, you just need to sip, often. If you feel like you can't try water, not cold ice water, and no straws.
Sometimes just alittle is all you need at this point. As long as you are up to the bathroom, and peeing.... lol that is whats important. Many times it is from the medication you are given, and that will improve. Take it easy, you just had major surgery.
Take one hour at a time for now. Rest, sleep, walk , walk walk, sip, sip, rest, sleep, that is all that you will need for now. Oh, be sure and use alot of pillows for comfort, and those sips may not seem like much, but it does add up.
Good luck, hope you feel better in next day or so.

It could be the medicine they gave you in the hospital that made you sick to your stomach. Every time I have had surgery I get sick to my stomach and they now know just to give me the meds after I have surgery. Your body has gone through a big change. So just as everyone else said don't worry about protiens or vitamins just yet. Make sure you are resting, walking and most important sip, sip and sip some more. My doctor gave me those little cups from the hospital to sip out of. The ones they give you your meds in. I found those very helpful. I felt like I was doing something when I could drink the whole tiny cup. The big cups just made me feel horrible when I didn't drink it all.

I hope you're feeling better by now. I do know that I couldn't take vitamins until I was about 5 weeks out. Before that, they would make me sick to my stomach.

Keep us posted and just do what your doctor says, and take care of yourself.

Welcome to the Loser's Bench.
