| Am I doing something wrong??
I must be doing something wrong!! I transitioned to pureed foods a week ago, but I am having such a difficult time! For example, this morning I had a protein shake (17 grams protein), snack was a piece of string cheese (8grams protein), drank a bottle of Isopure (20 oz., 40 grams of protein) over about 4 hours. For lunch I had about 1/4 cup pureed bean and bacon soup with lowfat cheese in it. It seems like from early afternoon on, I am trying to get liquid in, so about an hour after I finished the Isopure, I took a few sips of water and then stopped knowing I would be eating dinner soon. For dinner, I pureed canned chicken with some light mayo. I was only able to get about a tablespoon in when I . This is happening every evening no matter what I attempt to eat! Now, I feel so yucky that I don't even want to drink anymore and I know I need to. Can someone help?? Is this normal. I know the dietician told me that at about this time I would regret ever having the surgery, and she's right. I know I'll be happy in the long run, but for right now, I am so NOT!!!

you might need to switch your routine a bit. the pouch is very fickle. what doesnt work now will work a month from now but you have to find something and stick to it. for ex: do your solids in the morning/early day and do shakes/ isopure late afternoon evening. dont give up. dont get discouraged. you will find your way

Been there, done that. It took me a long time before I was able to eat chicken even now it has to be very moist. Looks like you are doing fine. You are getting in a lot of fluids at this point. Good for you. Hang in there a few more days and things will start getting better.

Hey Gidget--my surgery was 3 weeks ago tomorrow, and I've been queasy and bloated in the evenings for the last few nights. Not sure why--the pouch has its moods, I 'spose. Today I tried to get the bulk of my protein in by early afternoon and focus mostly on liquids this evening. So far, I feel much better than the last few nights. You did GREAT on your protein intake today . . . maybe your pouch was just "done" for the day. Take care and feel better!

Thanks so much for the support! What do you eat to get your protein in? I'm still searching and experimenting. Congratulations on your surgery. Since our surgery dates are so close, keep me posted on your progress. I am going to start just doing a shake for dinnr and get my protein and liquids in during the day--I think that may help for now. I hate to barf, but who likes it? LOL

It's ALL about getting into the groove and finding alternatives that you not only have available, but keep things interesting. You will graduate to regular food and have more options soon....keep up the protein levels and PUMP that water!!! There are MANY meal/food suggestions here and you are correct, this is about the time where you are asking yourself, "what the hell have I done???" That will pass and you will find your groove and be SO glad you did this!

You're in a very tough stage. You're trying to figure out what to eat and most of the stuff that appeals to you doesn't appeal to grouchy pouchy. I don't even remember when the turn around came, but all of a sudden I was in a grove and for the most part, pouchy is alright with what I do. Just keep experimenting and you'll find that when something works well, you'll eat it til you never want to eat it again! I was doing a mdified version of new england clam chowder with shrimp added for a while because it worked, and then one day it didn't and that was it for months! But things will get easier and don't write foods off all together. If something doesn't work now, wait a month or 2 and try again. My pouch changes all the time. Also, don't be surprised to eat something fine for days and then all of a sudden... nope. That's why we all say 'grouchy pouchy'. So just roll with it and things will get easier.

Chicken and eggs were the worst for me in the beginning. Now I can eat just about anything. Like everyone said try to get your solids in during the day. I remember when I was like that I would revert back to cream soup or even broth. Broth always made pouchy feel better. Don't worry, this will pass. Now I'm not sure I could throw up if I tried!

I remember I made a pot of cheesy potato soup with lots of cheese and milk. It had quite a bit of protein and it sustained me for those first few weeks. Haven't made it since and don't care if I ever do. LOL
