Default Question about labs

I got my 1 year labs done and was very good except for ALT and AST (liver enzymes?) My other liver labs were within normal limits but I am curious if there is a correlation between the abnormal results and WLS. In all previous labs these have been normal and there are no contributing factors that I can think of ~ I basically dont drink and have had -0- alcohol since surgery a year ago, am not taking any meds at all, and, although I take tylenol, I don't take that much of it, maybe 2-4 tabs a week on the high side. My triglycerides were 59 and cholesterol was 169. Most of the stuff - calcium, protein, kidney functions etc were fine. I'm wondering if it could be related to not drinking enough. My pcp hasnt called me yet as they were probably waiting on the B12 and Folate levels, I guess they'll tell me at that time if she's concerned. Just curious as we have lots of medical professionals here

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Hmmmm, I havent had any labs come back with anything negative on them. Of course my surgeon didnt test for a lot of things. I will have my first round in October with my PCP...we will see how that comes out. I hope that you get some better news on your other labs and they can figure it out for you.

Sorry I don't know. I know when mine came back everything was good except my vitamin D was low. I am trying to get in more fortified dairy and a little sun each day. I usually stay out of the sun because being a redhead I burn. But if I go out after 3:00 and don't stay out two long I can handle it. Haven't had it rechecked since so I don't know if it's working.

How high were the numbers?
If the numbers aren't that high, I would say just have it followed, it may be back to normal the next time. Viral infections sometimes raise the numbers temporarily, too, even if they aren't hepatitis viruses.
Also, do you still have your gall bladder? If you still have it, you may have developed sludge or stones, which, though aren't causing any pain, is causing some backlog of bile (bile is produced in the liver) raising the numbers.
Come to think of it, I think there was someone, more than a year ago, who had the same thing happen, and the numbers came back down at the follow up.
Anyway, see what your dr says.

My ALT was up when I was taking an anti-tuberculosis medicine when I was exposed to TB a couple years ago, but a change in meds normalized the ALT.

I hope you get an answer soon...let us know!

Strangely, my pcp hasn't called me yet, will call Monday to confirm she got the labs, my fax may not have gone through. I was kinda laughing at myself because of course the first thing I do is go online to see what I can find and I see all these terrible things it could be ~ hmmmm, wonder why we dont send lab results directly to patients....... LOL

The Bilirubin and Alkaline Phosphatase were well within normal limits. The AST was 44 (NL-10-30) and ALT was 73 (6-40).

Working in a medical office, I do wander sometimes what all we get exposed to! Hoping it's just a viral thing ~ I feel good~~~ Will update you all next week. Thanks for the input.
