| I am a eating machine.......
All I have done for the last two days is eat....and when I'm not eating, I am thinking about what I can eat next! It is TOM, but this is the first time since surgery that I have experienced this. Yesterday was terrible! I dont think I went over 1000 calories, but I ate like crap! I have never had cravings like this, even pre surgery. Do cravings become more intense further out from surgery, or could this (hopefully) be a fluke?

Been there done that.......Yeah Ive been in your shoes. Its like OMG what is going on. Seems like I get it every month but things still go ok. Its hard due to in the begining we dont crave stuff and are not really hungry and then when that feeling does come back we kinda think oh no. So just hang touch and try to make smart and good choices. Easier said than done I know.

Unfortunately I can agree too. I somedays eat like there is no tomorrow, not usually "bad" things just constantly grazing. I guess it is part of the teritory where old habits creep in sometimes and as u said TOM doesnt help. Hang in ther. Kathy

Before surgery I didn't notice TOM did much except make me cranky. Now I can be like a raving lunatic searching for certain foods- hormones can change after surgery since the melting fat releases estrogen and OMG it had to affect us! Just do your best to get through those few days, and it too shall pass! (until next month!)

Before surgery, during TOM, I didn't really want to eat. Now it's just the opposite. I feel like I can eat everything in the world as far as cravings during TOM. I'm 10 months out and it's been like that every month. Just remember to make smart choices and you'll do fine. We're all here to support you.

I do not get tom anymore, I had a histarectomy almost 15 years ago. But I still get those urges to eat all day long on some days. I try as hard as I can to hang in there, but it has gotten the better of me and gave into them and then when I do that I try to stay with the healthy choices. After surgery I hated food and I did not care for sweets, I just plain did not like any kind of food. But now I like food again and I have done lots of revising and am doing pretty good, one of my bad habits is sweets. So I eat sugarfree candies but limit myself to how many I eat. Plus I make some really healthy sweets and is low in carbs and high in protein and that seems to do the trick. Then there are days I could care less about sweets or anythig else. Those days I have to force myself to eat, if I would not force myself to eat I could just get by on flavored water or just plain water, and that usually happens when I get real busy or when we are gone I can get by with pretty little. So when we are gone I have to look at the protein to snack on so that I get enough protein in me. Also a bad habit that I got a handle on now is chetooes, I would limit myself to only 2 bags a month and that is hubby helping me eat them, so I did not get that much. But now my daughter and I ordered protein cheetoes that is low in carbs but has alot of protein, and wow it tastes almost like the real thing and ohh are they yummy. This weekend I need to order sugarfree syrups for my drinks and I am going to order the other flavor of chetooes which is ranch flavor, I cannot wait to try them. My daughter and I were going to try just one bag but we could not just order one bag only a case of 12 bags, so we ordered them and divided them. So when I get that urge to graze, I try to do it the healthy way. I hardly ever grazed before surgery, I only ate my 3 meals a day, and a fruit before bed. But i had a hard time with breakfasts then and usually ate about 10 in the morning before surgery. I have more trouble with grazing now and I am thinking that it comes from the 6 meals that I am suppose to eat. In Sept. I have to go back to see my surgeon and I am going to ask him if I can go down to 3 or 4 meals a day. I am so scared of getting into a grazing habit which I hardly ever had before surgery. I have lots of trouble with breakfasts and I guess I like to eat something around 9:30 or so before dinner. But doing the hot protein drinks at night before going to bed really works for me. I hardly ever wake up hungry at night, in fact I can sleep threw the whole night. So I would say if you need to graze, graze on healthy foods and the grazing will pass.

We had our surgery 2 days apart, and you know what.... the past 2 weeks I have had HUNGER!! So, I think we are entering a new stage where we are going to have to deal with Head Hunger and Hunger again.... Its sooo scary to me, and I deal with it as best I can. I am trying to make the right choices and remind myself that now for the rest of my life I will have to MENTALLY make the choice to pick the right foods...the free ride is over and if I want to stay healthy...then make a healthy choice.

It's pretty scary the first time you experience this (actually everytime is scary), but there is such relief when things go back to normal. For the first part of it you eat like crazy and you think this wls won't work, and then things go back to normal very quickly - and actually you eat less than normal right after. Just grin and bear it and it'll be over before you know it.
