Question Why do I not feel full???

Me again with yet another stupid question. At 81/2 weeks out, I decided it was time to lose my fear and start eating "real" solid food. Today I had a protein shake for breakfast, a bottle of cyrstal light flavored water, and then went out a couple of hours later to lunch with my sister. I ordered chicken dijon mini skewers, ate one full skewer (probably about 1 ounce) and ate just the inside of two chicken and shrimp potstickers. When I came home, I had 10 small green grapes and still did not feel full. Shouldn't I have felt full? Do some people eat and not get that full feeling? I hope I am not one of those, becaue I'm afraid that I will overeat if I don't feel full. Just a few minutes ago, I ate 5 mini rice cakes! Am I overdoing it, or should I push my pouch to the feeling of fullness?

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Wow, that is a tough one. You should feel full. Then again, I notice there can be quite a delay between eating and feeling really full. I stop eating after about 3-4 bites because there have been times that I feel fine after 5 and then later, wham!, I feel over-full.

Talk to your doctor about it.

When you start getting/understanding the full sensation is actually individual. It usually seems to be anywhere from 3-6 months out. Earlier than that it isn't abnormal that you don't *feel full*. The full sensation in itself will be different from the full feeling you had pre op, so don't rely on your memorie, either. It's best to measure what you are eating, and stop when you've consumed what you've measured, and see how your pouch feels then.
Don't panic because you don't feel full, it's quite common at your stage.

Yes it took me a while to get that full feeling. (I think I posted one just like you worried!) For me I started noticing it more the more solids I ate- I can also tell when I start burping it means I am DONE! Just measure your food for now and stay within your surgeons guidelines- you will start to feel it the further out you get when you are more healed.

Gidget,
Hey we are just six days apart for surgery dates! I have an great detector if I eat too much or don't chew . . .I vomit. Not on purpose, it's just something my new tummy does. I have noticed that sometimes I seem to eat too much and then not full. I've learned that meat fills me up, and then I wait 60 min or so before drinking. An egg, cheese, chicken etc. and I feel stuffed. Popsicles . . .nope.

I'm not sure this helps since I'm in the same boat as you.

Lopsided Smile,
Becky

LOL @ Becky!

OK, this is a topic that I have been thinking a lot on lately.

Why do we have to feel full? Isn't that desire to be full, or the inability to get full, how we got here in the first place? It is for me. My being "not full" was a confusion for being "hungry". I must strive to reach the "not hungry" place, WITHOUT being full.

I know, either by common sense or by my nutritionist, or by fitday or dailyplate, how much I must eat to either lose weight or maintain weight loss. I am no longer hungry after a meal. I must then know to just STOP at that already determined amount of food has been consumed, and be satisfied with not being hungry, NOT with being full.

Does that make sense???

Rambling kind of gal at the moment,

Thanks to all of you. I am just starting to eat solids, and I must say I was never really hungry before this journey, I just ate out of time, habit, boredom, etc., but rarely hunger. I am also not hungry now. I just eat because I know I need to consume 600-800 calories a day. I am trying to focus more on solids and less on shakes, but I do start out with a shake every morning and here I am at 8:00 at night (just got off my 12 hour shift) drinking yet another shake because I have only consumed 400 calories so far today. When I eat solids, I don't think I am able to eat enough to feel "full", and my calorie intake hasn't been great. Today, including the shake, I will have gotten in about 690 which is prettty good for me. As usual, keep the advice coming in--this board has helped me more than you'll ever know!!

gidget....i'm in that same boat. If I eat the suggested 1 ounce (medicine cup)...I'm not full. I am 6 1/2 weeks out..from surgery and I eat about 3 ounces a meal. tonight I needed to eat more. Am I living dangerously?
