I just wanted to know a few things..... How long was it before you could drive after surgery? How long before you could lift more than 10lbs? My son who has CP is 32lbs and immobile so the sooner I can lift the better. What were you allowed to "eat" after surgery ? What should I have at home when I come back from the hospital? See, just a few questions

I went back to work in 12 days, so I was driving about a week out....depends on whether it's laproscopic or open.....
I had cream of wheat in the hospital, but every surgeon is different...have SF popsicles, pudding, jello at home....everyone says mashed potatos, though I was never a huge fan of this.....I was told not to worry about protein for 2 weeks....keep the water and fluids going...I did sugar free oatmeal, puddings, yogurt....go slow...it will take time to get the routine down!
LOTS OF WATER...and some small measuring cups (like nyquil cups)...at first, you will only be able to sip small amounts...

I was about 6 weeks post op when my Dr. released me to lift weights. Meaning anything over 10 pounds.

Wow, your date is getting close
When's your last scheduled app pre op? You should be given a list that will answer these Q then, if you haven't been given one already. Confrim with your surgoen what he says, as every surgoen has his/her own program.

For me- I could drive as soon as I was off pain meds, so after the first week for sure. Was cleared to be able to lift my 30 pound son at 2 weeks- HOWEVER lifting him hurt my stomach! Dr. said it wouldn't cause damage but be careful. I was on liquids starting day 2 and soft foods at 2 weeks.
Good luck!

Everyone's different, but I was allowed to drive as soon as I was off pain meds. Lifting was limited for two weeks, but advised against till a full month. Like Kath, I used small medicine cups for measuring my water, at first.
I was on liquids for 3 days, then switched to cottage cheese, soups, SF popsicles, farina, etc for two weeks. Then I moved to soft foods...at two months I was allowed anything, except skins (like the skins of tomatoes and other fruits).
I'm sure your surgeon will discharge you with his instructions. I'd try to get some help, with your son, at least for a little while.

First things first......glad you have deceded to go through with surgery. Second, don't forget your lip balm. All of your other questions you will get at discharge. I was sipping protein shakes day after surgery and started soft foods week 2. I could drive as soon as I was off of pain meds and was able to start working out at 4 weeks. We broke record snows here in Jan/Feb so I did a lot of shoveling but was very careful.
