| Fat Free/Low Fat vs. Sugar?
I have noticed that items that are fat free or low fat have more sugar than the regular version. Which is best? For example cottage cheese and balsalmic salad dressings. Do you take the lesser fat or the more sugar?

I look at how much sugar. If it's minimal than I go with the lower fat version since high fat causes me problems just like high sugar. If the sugar per serving is over 12-15 (that's where I try to keep it) then I would go with the one with lower sugar. You have to learn what's best for your body- of course the best option would be low fat and low sugar!

I try to not eat a lot of fat, but I also know that I can't eat a lot of sugar or it makes me extremely sleepy.

it will depend on how you handle either. i cant handle fat very well. sugar i seem to do fine with. it's gonna be trial and error.

| I dont do well if the sugar content is over 10 grams. Dumping kicks in on just about anything over that. I can eat a strip of bacon or some steak so I dont think fat is an issue for me. I agree with Kenya...it is all trial and error. I would make sure you are at home and not in a restaurant or friends house when trying to gage.

Here are the numbers I use to determine if I'm going to eat something:
under 5 g fat
under 14 g carb
over 15 g protein
Not that I'm perfect and always stick to this, but I know I will have dumping symptoms if I go over those numbers for both fat and carbs. Fat gives me a headache followed by nausea and growlly pouch/intestines. Carbs will make me break out into a sweat, fast heartbeat, and profound sleep. (Who needs a sleeping pill, just give me one of those bite size candy bars LOL)

So.... Funny barbie!!!!!!!!!!!
Great way to go about it...
Kenya is so right, everyone is different, so you have to test the water so to speak, just use your good judgement, stop if it doesn't seem to go well...
Lol,

I avoid fat like the plague, but items with SOME sugar don't tend to bother me. I usually eat low fat cottage cheese (the fat free is gross).....
I usually avoid dressings of any kind...lots of fat, sodium and carbs....but then again, I don't eat a lot of salad...(non caloric and just takes up space)....I focus primarily on protein.

Thanks all, I would say that I tolorate surgar more so than fat so low fat stuff may be better for me. I will have to keep an eye on those labels. I was just suprised that the sugar content on cottage cheese went up when choosing the low fat version and have noticed in other products.
