Question Head Hunger - what do you do?

One of my after surgery worries is head hunger. I have lots of that. I know that one of the techniques is to drink water instead of eating. Another is to distract yourself. What do you do to distract yourself when head hunger hits?
Thanks! You all are great!

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I am 3 months post surgery and this "head hunger" is just starting. My stomach doesn't say hungry just my head telling me to eat and that it needs something. Nothing sounds good or taste good at the time but can't get it out of my head. I just don't want this to get me into trouble. I've done really good so far.

I would like to not eat when I have head hunger. I'm looking for ideas on what else to do that have worked for others.

Distracting yourself-- the easiest thing to do, is to go out for a walk if the conditions permit.

Go for a walk, listen to music in another room, paint, scrapbook, come online and read in the forums (that's a great one!), read, do whatever hobby you enjoy.

I personally try to get OUT of the kitchen area and also if I stay in the house I try to do something with my hands like paint as it makes getting food even harder. If my hands and mind are busy the cravings fade away. And if not, I also found 2 bites does the trick most times if I allow it, then the temptation is gone. My Dr. joked with me once- don't crave a hamburger all day and stuff down 3 chicken breasts instead when you could have just had a few bites of the hamburger and been done with it!

I like those ideas! Thanks! I need gather some craft options so that I have a selection to choose from. I think I'm going to have to learn to throw away food when I'm done eating. I am definitely grew up in a "clean plate club" house.

I think throwing food away was and sometimes still is a hard part for me. And I try to get my brother to realize he is teaching his kids to clean their plates and that also is not good. Even when my niece is yelling she is so full he says eat what is on your plate. Well I had a small talk with him about the size of her tummy too she is only five..lol I also get a lot of head hunger as well and have found that it is because I am thirsty a lot of the times. I dont feel it but when I get more water in I do feel better.

I agree with Kara. Coming on here helped me alot. This is a great support system and keeps you focused and your eye on the prize.

And yes its very hard to not throw away food or not finish it. I have had to work on that. I feel bad or feel like I am wasting it. Alot of the times I give stuff to my husband.

Yes..distractions. I also look at the clock and say.."ok, if you are still hungry at such and such a time you can eat..but not before that!" If I am totally dying and really want something, I go for a sugar free popsicille. It has flavor and texture so it usually helps. Also, I will do a flavored crystal lite if I don't have popsicilles.

I also find distractions help...go do something...anything.

I still fight this.... everyday.

So I have been coming on here in my down time and I also drink alot of water. I agree Keep busy, at home I read or go on the computer it helps there. Hang in there.
