| Recent Anemia
Hi all, I am now 2 months post op and am doing great, but I went to see my primary doctor because of the fatigue I have been experiencing. I have days I can't get out of bed, especially after a week of stressful work.
Well she did some blood work and found I was anemic. (Hemoglobin was 9.4). I am going back in in a couple of weeks for more blood work and I suspect this is from the malabsorption of vitamins. I was anemic when I left the hospital because of a GI bleed. Left with Hemoglobin of 7.7.
I am trying to be more vigiliant at taking my vitamins, I am currently trying the Optisource, which seem to be going down better than the BA or liquids.
I am finding also that I am not hungry at all and have to force myself to eat, which I never thought would happen. My weight loss has slowed down tremendously and I am assuming this is from my lack of eating. I still am getting my 60 grams of protein, mainly from shakes since I don't feel like throwing up when I drink those.
Any suggestions to help get through this period?

glad you found out what was wrong so you can take care of it!! the only advice i have for the early months out is...make sure you are getting in your protein and drinking at least 64oz of water a day...everything will fall into place, this whole journey is trial and error..good luck!!

I think the same as what Dawn said - as long as you are getting 60 plus grams of protein in and staying well hydrated....
AND taking your vitamins!~
But I do imagine proteins from actual foods would be a little better - and you would jump start your weight loss again - but you can only do what your pouch will tolerate - you are still early out. Maybe try turkey chili, or tuna or crab salad - just 1 new thing a day, and only a small amount as a suppliment to the protein shakes you are getting in now - not instead of, not yet anyway.
Good luck!

Please make sure to take extra Iron too, I am having some major health issues due to being extremely anemic, you have no idea how much anemia can affect your whole well being, please keep taking your vitamins and ask your PCM about getting you some extra iron

How is your VB12 level? This needs to be good as well to prevent anemia. If your supplements don't included VB12, then confirm with your dr and starte getting them in, as well.

I also learned in my nutrition classes (6 months of them...happy that some of it absorbed in this old brain) that the iron should be ferrous fumarate, not ferrous sulfate which is the most available. Something about better absorption.
I also remember vitamin C being a help in the absorption.
