Default The Holiday's - Connecting Through Food

This morning I watched yesterday's Rachel Ray's show and Rocco (the cute cook) was on her show. Rocco wished everyone a happy Thanksgiving and talked about how this is the holiday that "everyone connects through food". I thought "HOW TRUE!" I would love to hear from you guys on how you handle Thanksgiving dinner.

Let me explain, I come from a large family where if you don't have an over flowing plate and seconds the older people will try to force feed you because something is wrong with you. I'm almost embarrassed about attending the dinner and have even thought about "calling-in sick". What do you do at Thanksgiving dinner, family dinners and the holiday dining with co-workers?

Thanks

Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Thanksgiving last year was good....I got a "spoonful" over nearly everything...chewed well and focused on protein...I was only a few months out last year, and it went really well....as long as you focus on your plan, you will do fine!!

Focus on what you are suppose to and don't let anyone embarrass you into doing something that you know you shouldn't. you will be the one that pays for it later. it's not worth it.

I have not had the Thanksgiving dinner experience yet. My whole family know about my surgery and nobody has ever said anything about what or how much I eat so....I feel ok to eat what I am comfortable with infront of everyone. Family has offered me food but I am usually honest especially with dessert and tell them...it will make me sick. I plan to have a little spoon of everything like Kath said and I plan to stay clear of the sweets!!! Moderation is the key! You are really early out so be super careful...chew well and don't over do it.....go slow. My family makes a corn pudding and it is my favorite. It is made with eggs and I have only done eggs one time since surgery and they made me so sick...I am nervous about trying that...not sure if I will.

I intend on having a spoon of something sweet too....this journey is all about portion size and EVERYTHING in moderation....I find I do better if I don't COMPLETELY deny myself!

Oh...I just remembered....the pumpkin pie you posted not to long ago Kath. I can make that and will have a small piece. That had good nutritional info.

A little sweet usually won't make me dump...I'm talking a bite..maybe 2 max...I can't sit down and eat anything that has like 50 grams of sugar per serving....keep in mind, I'm 15 months out....

We usually have pie HOURS after the meal. I plan on having my pie sliver right before bed, so if I do dump, I will be in the right room.

I always cook on Friday after...it is less stressful...I can cook the pies and prepare the finger foods on Thursday (I will serve a small ham for the family). Then the bird is on Friday. I will buy 2 birds (BOGO free). I will give away all the meat on Friday, then cook the other bird for "us" on Sunday.
