fever and extremely bad back pain
Hello everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone has had a fever and back pain 3 weeks after surgery? In my gastic bypass manual it states I should report anything over 101 to my surgeon. My temperature has been running 101-102 for 2 days now.(freezing to death one second then burning up the next minute.) I would think that it is a flu or something coming on except I have not been anywhere and no one has came to my house since Thanksgiving and none of them were sick, for the last 2 days now and I am getting terrible pain in my back across where your bra straps together. Well I called my surgeon because the book says to and he just blew me off "it must be a bug your 3 weeks out " he says. I feel like crap I am so weak its hard to do anything drinking liquids is torture but that really didn't matter since I had the pick line supplying me nutrition. But to add insult to injury the doctor also desided to remove my pick line today. So I am going to have to force myself to drink now sick or not. I thought he could have waited till I was over whatever is causing my fever but what do I know. Has anyone else ever had these symtoms: Fever and mid back pain but no cough or any other flu or cod symtoms?

Or see a doc who takes his patients seriously...
If you go to the ER maybe you'll get another doc and get a second opinion. Could be a coincidence to your surgery, Kidney infection, who knows. I wouldn't let this go, especially with a fever for a few days. Even if it's not related to surgery, sounds like you need ? meds?

Hi everyone thanks for your suggestions. I called my family doctor today( the one that referred me to this a_ _ h_ _ _in the first place. And the fanily docotr will see me tomorrow at 11 o am. But what really tics me off is that sick people find it hard to drink enough fluid anyway and that is triple times worst us gastric bypass patients I don't understand why he took me of the pick line until somekind of diagnosis has been made. But When he called me to say he was taking me of the pick line and someone would be picking it up at my house this morning he said I could call a home health nurse come take it out or I could wiat till Friday evening and he wuold take it out. So I am going to wait and let him take it out, Thay way if something happens between now and then I won't have to be stuck for an IV or blood work

Thanks for all your support. I am going to my regular doctor tomorrow maybe he can figure it out. I needed to go see him anyway because my surgeon said he did not put me on the blood pressure so I would have to find out from my family doctor to determine whether I stay on them or not. This whole ordeal has been torture. I am so
deppresed I cry at least 10 times a day or bite someomes head off for no apparent reason. I am going to talk to my regular doctor about this tomorrow to.

Sorry to hear you are feeling ill.
The fever in itself can cause back pain, although of course, what is causing the back pain is also causing the fever--some sort of infection.
Are there any rashes along where the pain is most, if so, you could be developing shingles, since your still being only 3 weeks out and recovering from surgery can pull your defenses low.
In any case, good that you are seeing your dr soon.
((((((HUGS))))))) Hope it is just a bug.
