There shouldn't be any pain when you swallow.

Stylindi,
I agree with Scott, check with your surgeon. The first four weeks things are still healing, and sips too large or air bubbles can hurt. I remember the sensation of food in my tummy being painful at first, but not pain in swallowing. Some people get that from the tube the put in your throat to breath--is it something like that? Either way--call the office and ask--that's what they are there for!
Sending hugs to your tummy!
Becky

Call your surgeon and let him know, you shouldn't have that kind of pain, in fact, you shouldn't have any kind of pain, once you've healed and everything's settled into place.
So, any kind of pain merits a call to your surgeon or your PCP.

Is it pain? or just discomfort? I get a sort of reminder when I swallow the first bite too. It's like things have tightened up and the food hits it like a rock, but then it relaxes as I eat. It's not pain though, just a little discomfort that makes me sit up straighter to feel like the food can get in better. It's getting better, but then, I'm only 2 weeks out.

6 months later I saw the associate at my post op appointment, and WOW! Morphine can make ANYONE look good!
Teeny bites. Eat with a cocktail fork and baby spoon and see if that helps. Chew to infinity and beyond. If none of this helps, call your surgeon.
