Default Water

OK, I know I have to drink a certain amount of water each day. To be honest, I don't do well with water -- it's too plain. Does it have to be plain water, or can I have crystal light in it or something so I can tolerate it bettter. I'm not due for surgery until next month, but I'm trying to get as much information as I can so I'll be ready, and trying to think of every stupid question I can think of. This site is so wonderful that I feel better asking you all than asking my nurses. Thanks for all the support you give. It's really helping me prepare myself

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

My doctor says Crystal Light is fine. I don't like it to much though so I get the Sugar Free Kool Aid packets that you just add to bottled water. It Must be the sugar free one though. I am hooked on grape and cherry.

I am the Crystal Lite girl! I hate water by itself, so I keep CL in business, I think! I will also drink an occasional Propel if I have to stop at a convenience store for a drink for some reason. They are flavored and much lower in sugar than like Vitamin Water. So pour, shake and drink up!

I don't like water either. I get the Ocean Spray packets for water. They have Cranapple and gran-grape, and ruby grapefruit. Good luck and enjoy the journey!

I love water. But you can have decaf tea and coffee, crystal light, sugar free Kool-aid.

Default Since we are on the water topic

I have been reading lots and lots from many different sites. I am due for surgery the week of the 19th (just waiting for my insurance approval but Doc says it should be in a couple weeks at the most). Anyways I love water, with or without added packages of flavor. My question is why after surgery are sips necessary? I hear everyone say sip sip sip but whats wrong with a gulp here or there? Even though I love water I find myself not drinking enough before surgery(since I have not been drinking with my meals). Some days I eat my breakfast...then lunch.... then come home make dinner and when I go to take my meds with dinner I realize I havent drank all day since my morning meds......so then I make sure half hour after dinner I drink atleast two bottles of water....sometimes 3. I know I am gonna have to get me a watch or something that rings every 15 mins or so...so I can remember. Are there watches that do that????

I drink nearly a gallon a day most days....I drink bottled spring water and sometimes use the flavorings.....but I love just plain water!!! Nothing else quenches my thirst now....

The sipping is due to the fact that your pouch is so small....you don't want HUGE amounts of water going in there...trust me, it kinda hurts! You will learn to space out your intake, as you CANNOT drink while you eat...My surgeon has us drink up right at the point where we begin eating, and I wait an hour to drink after a meal.

There are many things you can use that are sugar free. One thing you may want to see after your surgery is if sweetners affect you. I found I have issues with Equal but can use Splenda.

My favorites include: Crystal Light, SF Kool-Aid, Iced Tea of all sorts, water with a cucumber slice (very refreshing and interesting taste) and some carbonated waters (if I leave them open a while to get most of the carbonation out). I minimize these as carbonation is painful.

On the question about sipping. Its because a gulp of water or whatever can be very painful when it hits that small stomach....oh man does it hurt and for a while.
