Default Mexican Foods

Ok everybody, don't laugh at me. I am a Mexican food junkie. After my 3 week liquid only diet and then going thru the soft food stage, does anyone know when or even if I'll be able to eat Mexican food again?

Also, has anyone started drinking wine again yet, or will that be a no-no?

I told you I was full of stupid questions. I just want to make sure I do everything right when I have my surgery.

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

I actually had a few bites of refried beans on my way home from the hospital after my surgery. Taco meat (and later the shells) chicken fahita filling, enchilladas all agree with my pouch. I have no problems eating mexican food but I do advise that you try to make it yourself so you know you are making it low fat.

Oh yeah! I love mexican too! I'm 7 weeks out in the "fork soft" food stage and we have had a bunch of mexican - without the tortillas and chips of course. Refried beans with low fat cheese and sour cream. Taco meat with 90% lean ground beef. We've also tried that with boca bits and it's not too bad. Enchilada meat and my husbands version of machaka were wonderful. It's all good! Looking foward to adding fresh lettuce and tomatos back in too.

I was told no alcohol for 6 months. I *really* miss my glass of wine on Fridays.

There's hope!

Re fried beans saved me at that stage. I added some fat free sour cream and a little taco sauce and the flavor was wonderful. lol As far as the wine goes, I have not had any but I have heard that it is not a good idea early out. My diet says no alcohol at all. who knows it seems like each Dr. has his on plane. Good luck...

I heard everyone talking about being able to eat refried beans so I went early out to a mexican resturant and it made me really sick, dizzy and wanting to pass out and sleep. Not a good experience. I did try the low fat version at home and did well with that. I also make my own enhiladas at home, its so much better to control the fat content, you never know how much they add to those foods.

I drank a bloody mary about 2 months out and handled it well, it hit me fast and left very fast. But I noted no weight loss that week!!

It has been fine for me too. I try not to eat it too often because of the fat content.

Refried beans and black beans are good. BUT if you order them somewhere ask if they put lard in them- that can really mess with your pouch. You can buy the vegetarian ones by Rosarita that are yummy. I love mexican food- but find I don't enjoy it like I used to- since I avoid tortillas for the most part. Although a good con carne sits well!

best to stick to fat free refried beans at home...add some salsa and low fat cheese....VOILA!!!

I eat mexican food at restaurants now...I split fajitas with hubby....I don't eat the tortillas...just the chicken/beef/rice/beans.....I don't do it often...and it's hard when you do spicey....then have to wait to have anything to drink when your tongue is on fire LOL

I do have wine, but keep in mind, I'm 18 months out. I don't have it all the time, and if I'm drinking, I DON"T DRIVE....4 people in my surgeons office had pending DWI's becuase the alcohol hits our system directly and we can be drunk pretty quick!!
