even before i made the choise to have surgery i asked for an appointment with a nutritionist & never got the approval. my doc recomended gastric by pass or lap band but before they would approve me i had to join the gym and show initiative (i completely stoped drinking soda and well i lost a few pounds on my own (this gave me encouragement so i stoped asking for the nutritioist)
soon after i was approved for surgery and as you all know its a nervous, exciting and overwhelming time you know? to know you have this second chance i was so excited i continued what i was doing my surgon asked i droped 8 lbs before my surgery and i did it the way i knew how i ate very little two of my 3 meals of the day were protine drinks i was so wraped up in the idea of this major surgery and how it was going to change my life nutrition was the last thing on my mind. i dont know what i was thinking, i dont think i ever thought about what i was going to eat just thought i had to get used to the idea of not eating as much and as often

Alt Weight Loss Surgery Insurance
Yes, you can often get insurance cover for your Weight Loss Surgery.
Our own Craig "Big-T" Thompson has been there and done that, and he's written an e-book about it.

Not a problem! I scan it tomorrow while I'm at work and post it to the forum. It has lots of helpful information.

Default Protein Drinks

I just joined this site, so forgive me for jumping in with my opinions. I do not know if your doctor has you use protein drinks or not, mine does. I do 4 drinks a day (I am an extended RNY with a 75cm common channel you may not need that much) and need to get that much protein in, in order to feel human and not loose my hair. I would first call and see what the doc wants you on solid food wise, although with my first RNY I was on pureed until about the 9th week and than soft mushies and than on to other things as tolerated. I had to make sure that everything I at was not dry, if it was I was sure to get the foamies and dry heaves. Be very careful with how big the bites are and how fast you are eating. Getting things stuck is not fun and will give you hours of discomfort.

I have the booklet all scanned....I'll just need your email address to send it to you! I am at work this morning and was able to scan it. It is about 26 pages long and gives you all the information you need.

I know every dr. is different with their owne guidlines, so definately stick to what you were instructed. Mine is totally different than the most all on here and I was able to eat any healthy choice of foods after 2 weeks of surgery. Not that I could handle it, but I was left to explore myself and I stuck to lots of fish and shrimp, cottage cheese. My doc is a fan of getting you off the mushies and onto chewable food early on so you don't get hooked on the mushies. You can eat more mushies than chewable food and can result in more calories and later could be a problem. This is my experience, definatly follow what your dr. instructs. I also got a book called weight loss surgery for dummies and it has lots of info in it and food ideas at different stages.

ok...i'm gonna jump in...can't stand it anymore.....

I'm 18 months out and I still don't eat many raw veggies....they take SO long to digest and the caloric value is nil....with no protein....ceasar salad is one of the WORST....the fat content alone in the dressing is more than I allow myself in 3 days....

Hopefully, Skin E's booklet will help.....you need to go with basic rules...PROTEIN first, veggies (soft....mushy veggies) 2nd...carbs if there's room...and 18 months out, there still isn't room.....

Focus on the basics.....get your water in....I always say PUSH THE PROTEIN and down yourself in water.....I drink up the point where I'm going to eat, then wait on hour after eating to drink again (to allow the food to digest and not just wash out)...DON"T DRINK WHILE YOU EAT...

Default Here's the information that I promised....

Genitos,

Here is the booklet that I was given prior to my surgery and psych/nutritional eval.

It's a pretty big document and some of the information had to be zipped in order for me to even be able to attach it here.

Attached is part 1, 2, 3 & 4. I bypassed phase 1 because you are already in phase 2.
