its been about 5 weeks since my operation, im kinda on my own on this since i went out of town for my surgery. i call my docter to ask what i should be doing but i always get the same response, "schedual an appointment and come in to see the doctor" its a 4 hour drive from bakersfield to sandiego i did make an appointment, its not till the end of the month. for now i am reaching out to you seasoned vets.... i dont knwo what i should be eating ![]() i was armed with an information booklet outlining what to expect and after surgery & a small list of items safe to eat. one day i scarfed down my lunch (small piece of tilapia) and for about 2 hours of the worst discomfort... boy did i learn my lesson!!!!!!!i am still trying to slow down when i eat. and i stick to a small list of safe foods (egg, fish, deli ham or deli turkey, malt o meal, huny nut cherios w/ fat free milk, ceaser salad, decaf coffee, water water water did i mention water? beans & cheese, i recently tried eating some chicken and a few grains of rice it went down with no problem. i would love to know if i can add diffrent foods to my list, what you guys were eating at 5-6 weeks post op. what should i eat more of and what should i not be eating yet. i have tried looking on line for post bypass diets but dont have much luck the good news..........i am loosing weight! im down to 269 ![]() looking forward to getting some imput

First off, were you given any kind of schedule on when to up your food by the surgeon or the nutritionist? How many weeks clear liquids, full liquids, pureed, soft food, solid food? You MUST stick to your surgeon's schedule, no matter what schedules, others have from their respective surgeons. The schedule really varies with the respective surgeon's program, but the norm seems to be a week or two at least of clear-full liquids, then another week or two at least of pureeds, then another 2-4 weeks before moving on to solid foods. At 5 weeks, most people are on soft foods, which mean anything that is cooked so it almost falls apart. Not really any type of ingredients you can't eat, but more, how they are cooked, and how your pouch deals with them, for instance, too much sugar/carbs or fat can make some people dump, and things like that. Go to the What Did You Eat Today? section and check the lists there that members put up. Look at thier stats and check what members around the same stage you are are posting. Also please check the Gastric Bypass Diet section for information.

I agree with Doc. if you have any sort of guidelines from your surgeon stick with them. Since joining this board it is amazing to me how much each one of our surgeons eating plans are different. For example, I had surgery 2 weeks before you and my surgeon does not allow me to have the Cherrios, malt o meal, fat free milk or any type of salad that your surgeon does. Best to stick with what you know for now. But you do need to concentrate on slowing down when you eat. Hang in there.

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | When you're going thru the stages, it's easy to get bored too. Don't get too spunky~~~ Eat what you know is safe and nutritous making sure to get in your vitamins and calcium and fluids. I've found cottage cheese and sugar free cook pudding to be a mainstay in my diet, even now. Also, crock pot stews and soups are great for this stage as well as this time of year. Be sure to slow down and chew, chew, chew. Remember, your stomach doesn't process like it used to so you need to break it down as completely as possible before you swallow |

Does your Doc's office have a nutritionist or dietician attached to the office or someone they can refer you to? You did not have to see either of these types of professionals before your surgery???

I could not have rice or salad until much further out. Stick with soft foods- mashed veggies, cottage cheese, cheese, beans, tofu, fish and chicken as much as possible.

even at 5 weeks i was not eating fish. i think i might have still been in puree... if there is a nutritionist afficliated with your surgeon that would be your best bet for meal planning. if not and your insurance covers one, that it a nice plan b. every surgeons requirements are different. ceasar salad is on yourlist of approved foods???? |

Weight Loss Method Roux en Y Gastric Bypass | No kidding! My eyes bugged out too. No raw veggies for me for another 3 weeks. Genitios - I PM'd you with a link to the diet that I'm on. I'm only a few days ahead of you. At least you'll have some kind of guideline until you get hold of a nut at your doctor's office - and you really need to do that. Let us know how you're doing... |

At 5 weeks out, I was still on pureed foods, I could scan and email you a copy of the guideline booklet my surgeon provided to me, it's very helpful and tells you exactly what you should be eating....just let me know!
