Does anyone know why I am have diarrhea? I eat no sugar or carbs. My only bowel movements have been diarrhea. Several times a day. I read that this is not common with rny, so why? Could this be dumping anyway and if so why?

Hi Michelle~ I haven't had that problem but my friend who had the surgery 2 weeks before me did. She didn't know why either but it passed after awhile. She's very strict with what she eats so she didn't really eat sugar or carbs either. Just wanted you to know that there have been others with similar issues. Your body is still adjusting too, so you could have it go the other way too, which I did right after surgery.

i am going to bump this so that you can get some more information. i didn't have that problem, but as martha stated i am aware of others who did have diarrhea for a period of time following surgery. your digestive system has just been totally changed so expect some things to be different for a few weeks.

I had loose stools for months after surgery. (only 1-2 times a day so not enough to dehydrate which you need to watch) My Doc said it was normal since things were adjusting, plus I had my gall bladder removed. Check with your Doc, but unless it is really watery or often it's probably just your body dealing with all the changes!

I had all different kinds of BM's after surgery. I was just happy I was having BM's. Down the road I have stabilized.

Your body's still adjusting. It will take time, you just had MAJOR surgery, and have had a MAJOR portion of your body rearranged.
Even though your surface incisions have closed, your body is still in the healing stage.
Also, other than carb/sugar, fat can cause diarrhea, so keep a check on that as well.

Like Scott, mine have been all over the map.....I do Miralax every other day now, and mine are loose....you have just rerouted your whole digetive system....things are going directly into your intestines now and will have a "doubling" effect....watch out for low cal stuff that has sugar alcohols in it....this can REALLY do a number on your digestive track....
